Objects in the mirror might look closer than they
ok, so i always thought i was an INFP, ENFP or ISFP or perhaps INFJ but a recently some user that know me outside of the forum, suggested me i could be an ENFJ. so doubts are arising again, and i'm kinda lazy to determine it by reading about functions, so i wanted to see your honest opinions, whatever they are.
i mean, to simply say the difference between Ps and Js is that the first are wishy washy and the second self rigid, or structured might be enough to say i'm a P, but i'm not sure if this is too innacurate.

I think we need a thread that has each members view of cognitive functions, and typing people...

I have no suggestion as to your type. Sorry.

Not a bad idea. Ultimately the only correct view of the cognitive functions is that found in books written by Jung and his followers. They came up with the concepts and outlined the theory and the psychological mechanics. Did they get the type descriptions totally correct? I would say no. They left out certain things:

For example, it's my hunch that when Jung describes introverted irrationals, he is actually describing ISFJs and INFJs. If you take into account the fact that Jung lived a pretty cloistered life and dealt mostly with the mentally ill (that was his job after all), which types would have been most likely to seek out the help of a psychologist who was considered by others in the profession to be on the fringe? Do you really think ISTJs and INTJs would have gone to see such a man?

In any case, the disagreements that sometimes happen online are due to the fact that people attribute all kinds of different things to various cognitive functions w/o first understanding what the original definitions were. If everyone thoroughly understood the original concepts though, then we'd all be on the same page. People would be better at typing themselves and others too. Then instead of debating what the functions are, we could all shift to discussing our observations on how they manifest. The latter could be very useful...if and only if everyone attains a certain level of competence typing others accurately.

That's a really good point. When does he start to describe that? I just finished dionyosin and the other thing on the type problem and have just started him talking about the type problem in poetry. When does he discuss those topics you talked about?

I didn't understand what he talked about when he talked about Aesthetics and symbolism from Schiller. I figured that part was talking about the dominant versus the inferior, but I was still confused.

Sorry if this is incoherent, I am out of it, I had two wisdom teeth pulled and am on light sedation.

Holy shit. Hope they gave you loads of percasset. That's the best part!

I actually got that stuff from Chapter X. He says that introverted irrationals are "the most useless of men." I don't believe he could have made such a massive error in judgment had he been referring to ISTJs and INTJs. More likely he was talking about the F versions of those types.

I heard "2 mg." Which may not have related to whatever they gave me, but they didn't give me much at all really anyway. I don't know why they did. It didnt do much. It only made me slighy dizzier. I started to do 2 by 2 digit multiplication in my head to see how long I could maintain consciousness, but after i didnt pass out or lose consciousness, i figured it was uselessly given to me. But I feel very calm, and collected. And a little slower. But more collected and methodical. So rather pointless. I was hoping i would be wayyyy our of it for the fun of it, but nooo, you have to deprive me of my fun. My jaw is numb though.

I'll have to wait until chapter X then. I don't know why he decided to put his explanation at the end, except to have his argument put before his conclusion, if that was his goal, which is fine.

I am eager to finish it.

Sorry TMB for the slight derail.

Can we ban this excessively boring "troll" right back from 2005 or something?

If it was from chapter X, I'd say it's probably an exaggeration of Ni/Si types in general. Unless he says that he's actually observed it. In the Ni section, he points out that a *pure* Ni type (basically no noteworthy thinking or feeling present) will be interested only in aesthetics. He does mention that it only takes slight differentiation here to get an Ni type personally invested in the world's moral/social (Fe) or operational/logical (Te) dealings.

My current location is classified.
I get more of an INFP vibe from you, but my opinion is subjective.

Don't worry, it's just his subjective opinion that his opinion is subjective.

Really though, if you think about it, isn't subjective opinion a huge privilege?

Only if you don't want your opinion to be challenged by others, I suppose.

Only the elite and its franchisees are allowed the buffer against [the pain of reality] that is belief.

Denying oneself subjective opinion is the only means of liberation from the scheme.
