I wanted to take this time to delve into Si because I think it is a function that has received extremely poor consideration due to an inherent bias of the Myers-Briggs system and Keirsey temperaments.

Si is simply the function of paying attention to one's senses, with increased dimensional awareness depending on how high the function is in the stack (see: proprioception / somatics). Paying attention to the senses affords one with many abilities, some of these include appreciation for subtleties in aroma, taste, touch, texture, and chromatic presentation; psychic forethought into the reactions of others; awareness of internal body signals, health and qualities of the social-physical atmosphere.

Si types like to experiment and this can be in the form of testing the reactions of people, or trying out different recipes, tinkering with gadgets and hardware, even examining the natural world of insects and animals. It is prone towards experimentation because it offers opportunities for gaining new data about how the world reacts allows them to improve their understanding and competency.

SiTe & SiFe (Si in the role of perceiver):
Si with thinking tends toward practical application of their insights such as exploiting shortcuts in life, or devoting themselves to small projects that involve a lot of manual labor. Si with feeling on the other hand may be driven towards humanistic endeavors such as artistically expressing their insights or helping others develop oneness with the physical.

TeSi & FeSi (Si subjected to Rational judgement):
Although these types are led by differing dominant functions they come together on the understanding that the world can be broken down into easily observable patterns and that everyone should live according to common sense. TeSi becomes a natural businessman with keen eye for efficient methods and an unwavering stamina. FeSi easily fills the role of coordinator as with their ability to handle delicate situations and keep everyone in a good mood.

Extraverted Si vs Introverted Si:
The TeSi/FeSi seem to have an endless amount of energy when they're in the zone, in a sense they become slaves to the process and may neglect their own needs. SiTe/SiFe are more likely to be slackers who become stuck in habits but will never lose their self-sufficiency.

Si and Ne:
Ne in relation to Si refers to the latent potentiality of the world, it represents what already exists but cannot be observed because of human limitations or has not occurred yet because the right elements are not in place. I speak with determinism because to Si dom the world is something waiting to be discovered, for Si aux the world has already been discovered so Ne represents uncertainty and loss of control. Neurotic relation to Ne may involve a unhealthy appetite for privileged information such as spying, gossip, or "social hacking" whereas a healthy relation may involve a desire for travel, socializing, news reading and subculture.

Ne types relate to Si by way of limited understanding and attention to their own bodily functions, impatience for familiarity, and unwillingness to put in sustained physical effort. Unhealthy integration of Si may involve substance abuse, physical exhaustion, undereating/overeating while healthy integration may involve sports, exercise and appreciation for fine dining/the arts.

Stereotypes of tradition, "the past" and SJ:
Si in general has a penchant for understanding the limits of social acceptability as well as pronounced affinity for things known to provide comfort and pleasure, however Si dom is not particularly sympathetic to tradition as they would like to keep moving forward. Instead it is Si under the dominant attitudes of Thinking and Feeling that subject Si to pre-defined ways of living and understanding, the tendency towards the external/physical in sensing only amplifies this relation to tradition which may in the worst case be known as close mindedness.

As for the past, again Si as a function of paying attention to the senses naturally amasses a memory database of logical observations about the world and stimulus-reaction tendencies. Si dom would not be predisposed to publicly ruminating on the past because that is their private understanding. TeSi/FeSi are more likely to celebrate great moments in personal or familial history.

SJness does not accurately describe the Si introverts who are internally carefree, experimental and comfort focused. Instead what is taken for ISxJ qualities is actually a result of Fi and Ti dominance subjecting Se. TiSe has a similar attention to detail although his is more analytical than experiential with a personal need for logical absolutism and observance of hierarchy among his peers and circle. FiSe likewise holds strong opinions about social behavior and sarcastically and caustically derides those he disrespects and clings to stereotypes in the presence of strangers and acquaintances.

However something can be said for all Si and Ni doms, which is that due to their observational natures reality is revealed to them in a very intimate way and occasionally they will come across something they wholeheartedly trust in and will be stubborn about. But generally they won't intentionally let this interfere with their daily interactions with others.
Characters:
Typical archetypes of Si include yogi, hippie, hunter, con artist, mechanic, masseuse, nurse, painter, inventor, lover, chef

Anecdote:
I was out eating breakfast with my cousin who I type SiTe. We both order the same food and his was brought to him cold while mine was hot. He grabs the bottle of ketchup and starts spreading the sauce over his hashbrowns, I figure he was intending to just accept and eat his cold meal but after he finishes he calls the waiter over and asks him can he replace his plate with a fresh one. Now if you've never been in this situation before you might wonder why he would go through the trouble of putting on the ketchup, but see by tainting the meal the waiter was forced to bring a fresh plate or it would be obvious whether he had tried to heat it in the microwave, he predicted the waiter's possible reactions and set a trap. This restaurant experience might be common to many but this is the type of focus that Si has and is one of many ways that Si apprehends the behaviors of others.

I hope this post has inspired a new appreciation of Si and Si types or at least serves as a starting point for a deeper discussion of the functions.

I haven't thought of Si like this before, this is new to me. I could see how the function could be perceived that way. Most of the literature I've come across Si was that it was mostly a function that was reflective, rather than (internally) assertive and engaging.

"Si is simply the function of paying attention to one's senses, with increased dimensional awareness depending on how high the function is in the stack"

I'm highly sympathetic with this. The functions generally seem to take on different roles when they're in different hierarchies, which I guess could be the reason why there might be a perceived bias towards the understanding of it.

I don't have much more to add, but just from a metaview Si seems like it's the most malleable of the functions, because of the outward consequences of the function vary immensely, though the physical thought process might be the same.

Yeah "reflective of past experiences" just doesn't seem enough, like who doesn't notice when something is similar to another thing? The Beebe/Berens model actually has roles for the functions in different hierarchies but they don't really explain how that changes the nature of the function itself.

If you think Si is malleable I think something similar could be said of Ni, there's something about it that makes it thrive when information seems scarce. Curiously, it does more with less.

lol oops.
I thought some might be confused since neurotic Se is similar, but it's cool that you relate to my description of unhealthy Si. :D Oh wait...

Don't be afraid to share if you feel so inclined, I think Ne doms' perspective on Si would be interesting. Plus bottling up is not good for the soul :o

When I pay attention to my body like my hands and head and just sit here, Ne just shuts down and I can absorb the music, be the music. And I can be the things I am seeing, things move and I move and it just flows.

It is random music time now, let it be inside you as you.
