I first camw across MBTI 6 months ago. I read about MBTI for 5 to six hours at weekends. I tested INTP then I thought I may be an INTJ instead of INTP but I was wrong ; an ENTP instead of INTP but I was wrong and now I am considering the idea of being an ISTP.

How long have you been under its spell? How many hours a day do you spend reading mbti related stuff or post in MBTI forums (tell the truth)? How many times have you thought you were a different type?

How long have you been under its spell?

30 years

Very little now but I've spent considerable time on the subject

How many times has your type changed?

Stop it! One's type doesn't change, only our understanding of it and belief of which one we are.

2 new lows today!

I'm inclined to defer to Jung rather than you about type staticity

Thats what i intended to say actually .I m going to edit.

WOW without offence but if that happened to me ,given that I d spend at least hours each day during 30 years, I would hate myself. :ahh:

Why should I take offense when you don't know what you are speaking of ;)

Of course I haven't spent hours every day obsessing about MBTI specifically, pre-internet all we had was PUM after all. I mean that I've thought about it off and on for that long. Understanding oneself is one of the greatest challenges.

Understand your addiction. Introverts are driven to understand themselves in intrinsic terms. Who am i underneath how i relate to and am defined by my environment?

This is a life long journey and typology can be a path to trans-personal insights, which means, for example, shadow-work.

(The word personal means who you think you are, the word trans-personal means what the psyche is really about, it speaks of your integration with all dualities of humanity. The word trans-personal does not imply telepathy or any metaphysical idea.)

Think about how your dream characters are all your psyche and your psyche is always more than what you consider yourself to be at a moment.

Typology helps to pierce together the puzzle of dualities and so on.

Typology can also be a cage, when you adopt it from an unflexible descriptive book and limit or bend your introspection so that what you see in yourself stays a match with what the book dictates.

Lost in Thought
I have been fascinated and interested in MBTI for about 4-5 years now. Especially when I got more into studying the cognitive functions.

I am a member of different FB typology groups and forums, which these days I mostly lurk and observe in. I study MBTI as it comes to mind or as new questions arise in my mind that need sorting. I still have a lot to learn.
