I just wanted to put this up as a formal request. Can you not delete my thread 'help analysing this girl' on the human relationships board? I put up too much info that I'd care to leave around indefinitely. I thought the option to delete ones thread would remain open to me...

What does this mean?! ;)

I think what it is being asked is, "Are you not able to delete my thread?"

And therefore by implication, "Could you delete this thread?"

"Please?"

Heck I don't have a clue what's going on so ima just step out side and leave what I thought was a typo alone :rolleyes:

Haha sorry, I would indeed like to have the thread deleted, and I meant my sentence in the 'can't you delete my thread' sense.

looking back at that thread I guess it was me that scared you off with the better hope she isn't on the forum.

Starting a thread every time you have a problem is bad form. The accepted method for resolution is to approach a madmin by PM.

If they decline or ignore a request --- as is their uninalienable right --- you may request another madmin to bring it up in full grand council. Where black robes are worn ( but with many individualistic and alarming motorcycle patches to relieve the sheer repulsive boring monotony of all black ). Which could be declined or ignored again. Just like appeals in real life.

We don't do deletions that much.

@ Gopher: Well, I knew that I was posting some pretty personal info when I did it and I don't regret doing it, but I had expected I could remove it again. The most important thing to me at the time was to get as helpful and accurate feedback on my problems, but now that I got that I've turned to the next most important thing: Not leaving awkward stuff around :slashnew:

@ Claverhouse: I wanted to do that, but didn't know how to tell who were admins and who weren't (Intuition fail I guess). I'll change my question: Is there a list of admins, or can someone just provide the names of a one or two?

Edit: Never mind, I found the super secret view forum leaders link now! I feel proud of myself for finding it, yet ashamed to have done so only after starting a thread about this.

I think I might be able to help you out here Observer. Claverhouse...if I started dumping boatloads of my incredibly....diverse...pornographic stash onto that thread, would you not be forced to delete it quickly? I have a means, you have an excuse, and Observer has his relief. Triple win, THUMBSUP.

Just kidding. Observer, learn the important rules of the internet. The 'Important rules' list definitely includes, if you are gonna post something on the internet, assume its never coming back off.

Learn this well my son.

I think that 'rule' is mostly valid when referring to things that people in general find interesting and have a non-zero probability to want to store and share. Things like gossip about famous people and pornography fall into this category. My stuff is pretty generic and would only be deemed interesting if anyone recognized me or her from it. Even then, it would only be sharable with other people who know me or her.

I'm not so fussed about the information existing somewhere on the net, but I would like to be able to introduce INTP friends to the forum without embarrassing myself. As it is, there's an above 50% chance of them reading that thread and recognizing me and her from it.

No is the usual answer. We get fussy about the fabric of time being unwoven by folk wishing to remove threads.

I planned to move that thread to The Elysium because I think it's exceptional in the quality of argument it provoked. Unless mortal embarrassment is an actual threat to your life, depriving the community of such a contribution is a sorrow I would not contemplate.

One could always circumvent discovery by offering information first, and outlining how you would like the information handled. If these other INTPs are indeed friends, then disclosing the truth to them shouldn't harm you?

Oops, somehow I thought this thread had died after my last reply, not sure why.

@CoryJames
I'm quite good at learning from my mistakes, the mistake being assuming that the edit function was not time-limited as I had been used to from other forums.

@loveofreason
If you feel the conversation it contained was worthwhile then I suppose it should not be removed, I had just wanted to edit out the most specific information that didn't turn out to be useful in the discussions anyway. Some information might have been stuff that she herself would consider personal, which is stuff I do regret posting.

Anyway I will let it rest now and just hope that no readers know her.

You should be more concerned she'll stumble
here and find it herself.

The Straight Dope Forums* allow 5 minutes for editing, and even then glaringly signals the fact it has been edited by a sign.

Then again extreme liberals do not trust each other a single inch. With good reason.

24 hours is more than enough.

@ Bird:
Oh sure, I wouldn't want her to read it directly, but there's probably 100+ people who would be able to unique identify her from the information given, meaning that the probability that she herself would find it is at least a factor 100 lower than that of someone she knows finding it.

@ Claverhouse:
I didn't mean to imply that the 24 hour limit was unreasonable, just unexpected to me. I hadn't planned for it.

I haven't planned for my life, but I consider many aspects of it unreasonable, even when I expect the aspect.
