I would have never thought to think this but I have weekend and I miss school.

As a kid (Age 6-17), I considered school to be the most useless thing that exists. I considered school to be enslavement and a waste of time. (And was actually slightly bothered that other people didn't sense this as well)

Now, School for me is enlightenment and a way to develop myself both socially and intellectually. I must say that even now, I have never opened a book nor am I planning to do so but the school I am at now, requires no senseless learning.

I can identify with the school thing. If I had the time and money right now, I'd go back to school for more instruction; and I'm disappointed that I did not take more advantage of school on all levels when I was in it.

I've mentioned before I was heavily involved in Christian faith for much of my life. I don't think I imagined becoming an "apostate" when I grew up :D and/or seeing my position change to more agnostic/absurdist.

I didn't expect to get married and then divorced, and to think that that was actually appropriate in some situations.

I didn't expect I'd become more of a social liberal and even a registered Dem.

Fuck no, I still have nightmares about school.

These days if I want to learn something I look it up myself, arguably the only advantages of having a teacher is that they know where to look, which takes half the fun out of learning, and they can prevent you from making mistakes, which is the other half.

Probably have to say the same about school. During high school I hated every second of it and couldn't be bothered to do any of the work. Barely graduated in 2003, and started at college in 2009 and have been flourishing. If I told myself in 2003 that I'd be going to college I wouldn't have believed it; if I told myself in 2003 that I'd be flourishing and enjoying it, I'd probably strangle 2013 me (but then 2013 me would throw 2003 me off and kick his ass because he's a little punk bitch).

I hated every aspect of my public school education. 90%of it was pointless and most of my teachers were too focused on maintaining control of the room to actually help any of us learn. I sometimes wonder if I had gone to a better high school if things might have been different. My school was a bit more violent than average and in a very conservative community. It was the sort of place where it was not physically safe to be openly gay for example. However, despite all that I got good grades because I actually read most of the text books through cover to cover. Those tended to be more interesting and informative than my classes.

University was great though. I credit having more control over my life and who I had to spend my time with for that. I had a few useless profs and some even more useless class mates but for the most part everyone was there because they wanted to be and if someone was being a jerk I could easily tell them to fuck off without getting kicked out of class. It was nice.
