Yo~
It's been a while since I was on this forum, so I'm doing the intro thing...

First, though, I have to say I'm happy to see this forum is still here.

Second, I'm an INTP, by the official MBTI (S2) and the online quizzes (most of the time) and I've somewhat studied Jung's original theory on the types. I have known my type for several years. I think Jung's types are ingenious and the "bare bones" of personality. Most people have some difficulty understanding the NT vs SF, which were originally input of information and decision making. You know how two people can see the same thing and have totally different interpretations? And you know how people can decide to do different things based on the same facts? Yeah, that's more or less what the N/S, F/T thing is (In My Observation).

I'm a college student in my 20s.

Third, I'm here to be mischievous. I recently went through a somewhat unplanned hibernation phase, because of a cold. I just sat around reading and playing video games. Now I'm into this "I fell into boredom and can't get out" phase. I've been hara...talking to people on forums. This forum was in my hiatus list (as is IMVU, which I need to take care of soon). It's nothing personal, I just don't tend to stick around if I get bored -_-;

I have a lot of hobbies, a few stick, the others I shift through. I love Japanese language, culture and am a fan of anime/manga. I also like manhua and manhwa, so I'm kind of a comic fan, I'm just not huge on America macho-western style stuff. And I don't necessarily mean in art style, but in social and cultural perspective. I'm not religious (technically an atheist), but Eastern philosophies are interesting to me and the Shinto religion. Though I would consider the philosophy I like on a philosophical/spiritual level to be Taoism.

I also have a love for technology and computers. I have three computers and an android phone. I want to get a tablet sometime or maybe another laptop. My portable computers have Ubuntu on them, so I'm making up an excuse as to why I need another laptop so I can have Windows for school work.

I'm not going to say more on hobbies, since it would make a book instead of a post. I will say I love to analyze. I like figuring out systems and playing with them if I can.

My name here is Zero, which was originally Zero The Fool, based off the tarot card who's suppose to be an innocent, curious wanderer. I think I was more amused by the imagery of the fool/jester/joker than the whole wandering off a cliff thing.

BTW: Windows 7 and Google Chrome on my gaming/home tower. Not Windows 98 and Safari. D:

Welcome back.

I know you said that Zero was based off of the tarot, but did you choose your username because you were familiar with the tarot?

Just a curiosity on my part...

I hope you don't get bored this time and stick around for a while :)

I remember you! The last thread you did was something along the lines of "How do you sleep at night?".

I recall you as being acerbic and thoroughly anti-social. :cat:

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm not a fortune teller or anything, but I have Tarot cards and I have a general idea of their meanings. Each deck seems to address meanings a little differently. I don't believe in fortune telling. I like the art on the decks I have. I also collect unique playing card decks.

Well, I'll try to stick around, but I can't promise anything.

I'm surprised I'm remember and not entirely sure if I should be flattered or not :bluescreen:... I thought all INTPs were somewhat anti-social. And acerbic, well yeah, I guess that is me. Particularly when I'm getting cabin fever or aggroed for some reason and about to jump ship.

I've had a heck of a time with my sleeping habits, but I've realized they follow moon phase. I'm always a night owl, no matter how early I wake up it seems like... But I get more alert and awake during the full moons. As BS as that might sound...

Also, my login is telling me I was here in February. I guess it wasn't as long as I thought... Apologies for the redundant thread.

February is a while ago - I thought it was more recent than that.

In fact, I could've sworn I've seen you around these parts in the last couple of months, but it was probably just one of your threads being necro'd.

Good to have your fiendish self back, anyway.

I think I came back a few days before Zero.

I also have more trouble falling asleep at full moon, and I've heard of at least two other people having the same problem...

EDIT: found two contradicting articles: Link1
Link2

Dunno which article I'm supposed to believe. The second one at least cites their sources... :slashnew:

Does a "return" mean one intro thread? Does it mean a few posts? Does it mean anything at all?

It means the place it takes in one's own life, not the contribution one is to the forum.

Think about 4chan. (/b/ board in particular) Unless you are a total camwhore and always post pics of yourself nobody is ever going to notice if you stay or go. A thread about: "Hey, I wasn't here for a few months, now I'm back" is going to 404 within minutes...

I see. But what do you mean by this?

Maybe my translation from German to English wasn't comprehensible enough?

How significant is your activity on the forum in relation to your life? What effects does it have? How do you measure significance? Can it be measured objectively? Can significance be only the time? Maybe there are some people who only read one third of the threads on this forum and spend only time here at the weekends. Are they really here? Or is every weekend a new return? How much emotional attachment is there with this forum? What kind of emotional impact does this forum have?

/rambling

In conclusion: The definition of having returned is subject to subjective judgment, not post numbers, time etc. This is why (almost exclusively) Lurkers may leave and return...

Gotta stop now, or I'm just gonna start rambling again.

So, People post "returns" because they believe it is a return? In an emotional sense? For themselves and not the objective return?

I apologize, I am not even sure of my own question.

hmmm

Essentially yes.

But now you made me wonder what the intention of posting a "return" is at all. A lurker will (usually) not post a "return".

Some possible motivations for making a "return thread":

  • Introduce yourself to newbies (i.e. not necessarily newbies, just people who joined after the last time you left)
  • "Be polite"--> answer all questions beforehand, so no one will have to go off topic to say:"Hey Zero, I see you're back! How have you been and blahblahblah.."
  • Just sharing your "feelings/emotions" with a community

I always end up making lists and then they only have three items or something and it feels wrong...

Nemo- I like a bit of everything.

JoeJoe- It's hard to tell the credibility. One is from a sleep interest site and one from a general site. The internet has too much information and most of it is probably wrong or flawed to some degree. Sometimes you have to go with your own experiences, knowledge and gut feeling. We know the moon has influence on the tides and that nocturnal animals are active during full moons. But when it comes to humans, if not everyone is the same way, then it can be hard to test. People have the ability to disable themselves if they truly believe they are disabled. Is the paralysis non-existant then? From a purely medical and physical aspect, yes. But, from a practical point of view, regardless of what kind of trauma caused this condition, the person cannot walk or function normally and therefore, has to be treated in the same way as someone with paralysis.

Most people have a misconception about science and information. Life is constantly changing and so is science. People think they can make "factual" statements and think that means they are totally true and will be true forever. While some things stay true for a very long time, nothing is true forever, because things are changing. When it comes to humans, we are a diverse species and the most spread out upon the earth's surface (at least in class and maybe phlyum, not sure). We are still evolving.

Humans go through social stages in which what is "true" is more or less a construction of society/culture. If I remember right, in the 50s in America smoking was advertised as being good for people. Now-a-days, people are saying soy milk, which has been generally accepted as healthy, is now cancer causing (at least in rodents). For some reason we like to think that giving a creature who's diet would be plants and seeds human foods will tell us how humans will react to it.

When it comes down to it, there are a lot of flaws in our ways of getting conclusions. How true facts are is like a 50/50 chance.

I suppose I shouldn't post anymore return threads. I could just necro an old one, so it's not totally redundant. I do it just because I feel lost when I come back. It's sort of like when I go to the museum. I've been there many times before, but I always go to the Welcome station and get a map.

I see utility in #2.

#1 and #3 seems subjective. Why #1 and #3 is because you "feel like it", correct?

I always end up making lists and then they only have three items or something and it feels wrong...

It feels wrong? But is it really wrong?

Hello Zero. You make many assumptions.

Let's say that nature possesses the trait of inherent value. Let's say that survival is objectively important. Let's say that society is natural and let's say that what society deems as value is objectively true. I make many assumptions.

The flaws are there when you are not aware.

Habit? "Feel lost"?

Assumptions aka what I've read from sociologists.
My visions is skewed to their perceptions. I'll admit that.

Haha, thanks Polaris.

I've tried to put some Shakespeare into my repertoire. Specially the quote, "Brevity is the soul of wit." I still have a long ways to go.

I like your avatar, it looks almost exactly like my cat.
