What's good?

No negativity allowed- this includes bickering, insulting, shutting people down, being pessimistic (or negatively realistic), or any other form of subjectively negative material. If somebody wants to say something reasonable, support the good things.

Don't post any meta-observations. Post those elsewhere.

DO post things of uplifting nature that can inspire, motivate, aid, support, encourage, console, and are of an understanding, caring, kind, considerate nature.

This thread is primarily to counteract the negativity elsewhere in this forum, or at least to remember that negativity is only half of the full picture, and to provide a space for people to rejoice in the good things.

Thank you for your generous participation.

I love this thread. Great idea! I hope people post more words/thoughts too.

I think my positive thoughts might be mostly food-related right now. Guys, cordial! So cheap for the volume of drink you get! Sweet potato chips are both healthy and chips! And bananas! Food which comes with its own packaging!

Non-food:
If life and work have taught me anything it's that learning is incredibly hard and incredibly complex. Don't give up on the world because so many apparently perpetuate stupidity and misery. Instead, recognise that the news is innately negatively biased, and that the trend over history has actually been towards increased peace, life expectancy, equality and standard of living. If we haven't achieved perfection yet it's because dismantling the structures that have held us back (destructive thought, emotional and social habits) is a long and arduous process - and that's aside from the effort required to implement positive, constructive ones. Individuals don't exist in isolation but in social-learning matrices, so the amount each individual is able to break out is limited - but each small change counts towards the wave we want. Humanity *is* learning, it just takes time. Just because we haven't gotten there yet doesn't mean we're not on the way. Look at the trend, not single data points.

We forget how much falling occurs in the attempt to walk; we forget how big our smallest achievements actually are, and how huge wins are built on the backs of many tiny ones ("It's wins all the way down!"). One day, we will look back and marvel that we ever struggled as we do now.

Dedicated to Tomatoes everywhere ❤

The plant species itself is a tender species without thorns and with a fuzz that feels awesome to the touch. Hardly finicky and with a seemingly infinity capacity to bear gifts. And they do react to the care given to them by their owners. And they are not a hostile species, they do not spread like weeds. They allow their friends to stand right beside them. And they look fantastic.

VETOM23465_3.jpg

The geometry of the plant allows easy access to the fruit by hand or most importantly: automated. The color and shape of the tomato is a perfect contrast to the rest of the plant and allow even the easiest algorithms to identify and plot a course of action to pick up these lovely fruit. Tomato spread on the branches makes it ridiculously easy to harvest several tomatoes with only one cut, minimizing the damage done to the plant itself.

Tomatoes are a loving gift from a very generous plant species. And yes: tomatoes are a fruit, for you see, you are not eating the plant itself, but the seed pods that develop from their flowers. Flowers are a plant's (sexual) desires, the manifestation of it's happiness and tomatoes are the fruit of the passion and social networking nature bestows upon us.

bush-tomato-plant.jpg

Tomatoes are rich in Glutamates, one of the taste ingredients human tongues are apparently tuned for. Tomatoes taste good in any form, raw, or as any ingredient of any dish. To increase the tastiness of your cooking, just adjust the tomato/rest of the dish ratio until you realize that perfection is attained at 100% tomato.

Still no reaction? Then checkout this:

Jokes on you, the fulfilment of my prediction only made me giggle in delight! So we indeed must take a step back from checkmate into check or maybe even just neutral play!

I don't know if this counts as too meta...but pretty much everything is better now than it was 100 years ago. And even betterer than it was 10000 years ago.

Specifics:
- I can go to the store and buy any food I want.

- I can hop my moped and travel with the power of SEVERAL HORSES miles down the road. (Or in a car and travel with the power of even more horses and go even more miles, fast as fuck)

- I think it's pretty positive that my worst emotional pain is things like boredom, or lack of purpose, as opposed to the pain of watching friends get torn apart by animals or die of malaria. That's pretty cool.

- I can get on this machine and communicate with a bunch of random people all over the world, instantaneously. For less than $40 a month...which takes only a couple hours of work to afford. That's amazing.

Yeah we are living in the best time in human history. Life is good.

I once discussed with a guy on another forum who seriously made the argument that "It can't be argued that human morals and living conditions improve over time, because in the viking age women were probably less oppressed by gender stereotypes".

as INTPs, I think we are of the luckiest people on earth, as we spare ourselves a lot of unnecessary suffering by simply rationnalizing it away! be it self loathing, shame, regret or even hearbreak etc... and if one is till unable to surmount any of these struggles s/he can always take refuge in an existential crisis which renders everything equally meaningless, including pain itself :D :D

I wanna proceed but jeez is this still positive? :ahh:

You see, only with "negative" thoughts one can improve anything.
Who does not try to find something to improve is the true negative person.
You anticipated the "negative" thus it made you positive result.
I will stay "negative" to do true positive things.

p.s i do not care for your game or reaction
here a ninja :phear: to counter the negativity in the previous sentence.

Aren't tomatoes technically a branch of nightshade, bred to be edible?

I don't know if they were bred to be edible, but they are night shades. So are potatoes, and peppers. I read eggplants are too.

When I meant meta, I meant thread meta, as in "why is everybody mentioning the meta" or precisely what I am doing right know. :) but based on the current state of the rules of this thread, don't worry about the current state of the rules of this thread.

I am currently purchasing random books I found in the "what are you reading?" Thread off of amazon and I hope I can muster enough motivation to read them once they arrive.

Yup, I'm positive that it belongs to the Solanaceae (nightshade) family. Many members of this family are poisonous but some of them are edible.

Lancelot link secret chimp is sure to make you grin.

Fall/Autumn I find to be best time of the year. Summer and Spring is too loud, winter's too soft, Autumn is peaceful.

I'm also healthy, probably, so that's also nice. Hmm, 4 years since last check up, might need to go see about that.

So I have just had to network recently about programming. I called through three people, and finally I have a lead after 4+ years of just struggling to find a way to get into programming. I now actually have an understanding of where to go from here, and likewise I've also noticed that I'm beginning to hop out of the INTP rut. Well a little, because your always in the INTP rut to SOME degree. But anyway, this is reassuring, because finally, I think my Ne is satisfied because something that Si said was useless- networking- actually turned out beneficial with surprisingly little work. Surprisingly little is subjective, but for me surprisingly little was probably far below what most people (or a J) would call surprisingly little.

Oops. Didn't mean somebody.

Javascript, some python, maybe some Django, exploring libraries, working with code, maybe some C++. I'll have to look at it all but I just got in touch with a guy who knew programming well, so he explained a lot and I understand everything a little more, a little clearer.
