I'll give my opinion without seeing the video then: leftist ideology is an elabotate system of narratives similar to a religion. Humans are very succeptible to narratives, so this system of ideas will always be exploited by charlatans for their personal gain. The left will continue to exist as long as human stupidity will continue to exist - i.e. forever.

The trouble with this whole Left and Right thing is that the extreme of any view is plain lunacy. Weirdly, the further the extreme a view gets the more it resembles it's polar opposite. It's not really any different to the idea of feminism, where the idea that women are equal is not something you would dispute, but the extremist views are now so prevalent as to damage the ideology. I see the same thing with this Left and Right malarkey. It's all great arresting instigators of white supremacist violence, but it's another thing that the Bah Bah Black Sheep song is banned from nurseries.

The problem with it is that the lunacy of it gives ammunition to people to dismiss actual racism. When you do something as ridiculous and pointless as this, people ignore the message and rebel against it. The last person who brought that particular nursery rhyme up then said to me, "nowadays, see, there's so many fucking Pakki's around the streets you could play spot the white person." And that fuels the actual hatred, which leads to unnecessary violence. So in a way, I think it does more harm than good even if the act itself seems completely harmless and pointless.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's not harmful (not to mention wasteful). I just don't think it's of a relevant magnitude. It boggles the mind, but people only have so much outrage, and if it's wasted decrying leftist word games then the real sinister stuff gets a free pass. There is so much that's fucked up in this world it seems like shallow participation to base your views in response to cherry-picked extremists squabbling over petty bullshit. Funnily enough, this criticism is directed at the OP video, but applies at least equally to the reactionary left.

Yeah I generally agree with that. I understand maybe where to draw a line can be fuzzy, but the extremities are diverting from resolving actual problems (because they are each used as examples by the OTHER side to dismiss the entire opposing position) and also creating additional divisiveness between people who actually fall into the same general bucket and yet the more moderate approach is being treated as bad as the actual opposite position.

I mean, this pretty much describes what happened in the USA 2016 presidential election.

Whoever made this video didn't get the point of the flag and its changes. The brown stripes were added because of racist behaviour by a gay bar owner in philedelphia. It was a way for the LGBT community there to state that they stand with their black/brown queer allies not that blacks are more marginalized therefore they get flag colors or get pandered to. It was a deliberate message of solidarity in light of the racist incidents.

In General The Rainbow Flag Still stays as the symbol. Some other LGBT groups might add it as well at their discretion but there wasn't some underground leftist meeting that made this flag the new ultimate symbol.

More broadly, leftism and all leftists can loosely be defined as people who want new changes, new, untried systems and ideas. While all political movements want change its much easier and cleaner to rally people around what already was be that classical liberalism, neoliberalism or even facism(though this is much harder to accept and is not on par with liberalism or other more moderate ideas). Because these things are based on ideas that are more familiar to most and are associated with economic and societal positives. This has always been a problem inherent to the left. There are more leftists in general (people who lean left) but their ideas of what that means are as numerous as they are.

It never ceases to amaze me how a race hustler whose unpaid taxes total more than most working class families make in a decade can gin those families up to care about his crocodile tears.
