A lathe is a machine for cutting metal to shape by either "turning" whereby you're using a tool to cut a piece of metal as its spinning, or using the lathe as a milling machine by securing the metal to the carriage (the part the tooling is usually attached to) and putting a milling bit (like a drill bit but designed to cut sideways) in the lathe-chuck's jaws.

Basically it enables me to make stuff out of metal.

Nice. Why is it an important milestone? Curious about what you mean when you say "the end begins now". What would you like to create from it? What is the greatest thing you can build from it?

Robot parts.

I still need a few things, a four jaw chuck which has been on backorder for two months now, various clamps and v-blocks, more stock materials, but I've got a trip to Japan next month so all large purchases are on hold until I get back.

The end of working 9-5 if I can get the robot built and on kickstarter and if that doesn't work out I have other ideas.

Truly impressive. The end to 9 to 5 certainly appears a worthy end to pursue especially if the alternative(s) activate your ultimate potential.

I am super envious!
Learning how to use a lathe and a CNC machine has been on my list for a few years now.

I've spent hours on videos about lathes cnc's. I'm amazed at what you can make with them. Theres a balance of skill, technical knowledge, inventiveness and artisanship that goes into making things using these beautiful tools!

Theres nothing more satisfying than creating something with your own hands and seeing the end product functional and aesthetically pleasing. The satisfaction is beyond great!

I havent touched a lathe or CNC machine yet but I dare to dream of owning a KERN 5 axis cbc machine with the works. They are such badass machines!

Looks like the inside of a sewing machine.
It really does.

Still, have fun.

You can make all sorts, knives, guns, spaceships.
The last is my idea. I've come across INTJs who like making weapons in their spare time.

Aha.

The US military would pay a lot of money for a full-on Terminator.
