I'm just curious about how everyone feels about it. I understand a lot of it is cultural and generational, but it does seem to be in the INTP vein.

What are you referring to?
doof doof techno
dance techno
gangsta techno
classic techno (sickening 70s, 80s music)

Late at night a little bit of techno is great for keeping me awake just a few hours longer.

my opinion might not be valid, but i can't stand techno. i haven't heard all that much of it, but i just don't like what i've heard. i think it seems like almost too much of an extroverted music. it makes me think of large groups of people and getting up and doing things and people getting all touchy-feely (maybe stemming from the fact that the preppy, popular kids at my school were usually the techno heads). like i said, nothing i say might be all that valid, but thats just the "feeling" i get from techno.

Techno is actually a fairly specific sub-genre of electronic music, though people usually use it to mean any kind of electronic music.

yeah... I'm also not a techno fan. At all. My brother actually found some program somewhere online for writing techno music, played around with it for a few hours, and wrote a song that was just as good as any other techno I've heard.

Too repetitive for me, too easy to write, and too many annoying noises that grate on my ears.

I'm not really opposed to electronic music in general, though... I love a few songs by the Postal Service (Nothing Better and Against all Odds come to mind), and they're pretty electronic. I don't think anybody would call that kind of electronic music techno, though.

I seem to like this Tiesto guy. Though Generally, what I percieve as techno music is horrible.
The mindless BOOM BOOM music seems to "violate" my mind. It really needs to give me something to think of, which much of it really doesnt seem to. It's just loud and annoying to me, for the most part. "Boom Boom music" is about as close as I can put it.
Even with good electronic music, alot of it is disgusting electronic music.
Stuff that literally took no effort to produce, it seems. Thats my opinion atleast :)

Techno, in all forms, makes me want to flee the premisis.

Curious, how is techno in the INTP vein?

Wait. gangsta techno???

I agree. Electronic music was born in the night, and for last minute all-nighters, there's nothing better than some electro, acid house, trance or even techno.

Tiesto is not techno, it's trance. Common mistake though.

Well music that is mean for nightclubs is not made to make you think, but to make you dance (mind-altering substances help) For the most part, it is superficial and hedonistic music and for that purpose I think it works and has some merit. Although I do think there is too much boring, unoriginal, comercialized electronic acts that are mind numbing (as with all other genres), and on first impression its easy to be turned off on the electronic genres based on such hideous specimens.

I personally enjoy some electronic music because I see value in making something great with so simple beats, layerings, repetitions and plain noise. Its not so easy to work such sparsity or rawness.

I'm actually a lot more into industrial music, which is somewhat related, but industrial appeals to me more due to the techno elements, the variety and unpredictability, and the dissonance I tend toward in music, all with an air of existentialism.
