Six stories up.
I have two tattoos.. a bat totem on my wrist and a portrait of Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady the back of my shoulder. I don't have any specific plans to get more, but I'm sure I will.. just waiting for inspiration. I designed and drew both of my tats. I have several friends who are tattoo artists, and I'd say 60% of my friends are heavily tattooed. I have no interest in getting any piercings, though when I was a kid (12ish), I gave myself a few. My dad ripped a ring out of my eyebrow the day I put it in.

When i was born the nurse didn't want to pierce my ears because she said i was too 'cute' and later on my mom didn't bother to get me any.
So here I was no piercing not even the 'normal' ones, and i saw this really nice earing and i was like O_O .gotta.have.that.
So i went to the bathroom put a needle through my ear and with bloody hands went quickly to the pc to order the earing.
Is it weird for a girl to have only one ear pierced cuz ever since then i didn't bother to get the other one pierced too.

I really don't understand why parents feel the need to stamp their children with marquees declaring their gender. I asked my aunt why she had her girl's ears pierced when they were a week old and she said, "well, they're girls! I don't want people mistaking my baby girls for baby boys". Why? When they are a week old does it matter?

It doesn't matter to you or me, but I have a friend with two boys who is very uptight about gender in her kids. She was shocked that I let my daughter play with trucks as well as dolls, and that I let her watch Star Wars, which she considers a boy's movie. This is, of course, ridiculous, but it is clear that some people think it matters a very great deal.

That said, piercing an infant girl's ears just so people will know she is female is just wrong. Put a little pink shirt on her if it matters so much.

I'm kind of depressed, because I had planned to go in sometime and get my ears gauged up to 2s or 0s this week. (I was suppose to get them a while ago, but I ripped my ears going to fours so....)

I got my wife's name tattooed on my shoulder recently, but since it was mostly just to make her grin I'm not sure it counts for purposes of this discussion.

@Zero: You go out to get them gauged? Why don't you buy the earrings and do it yourself? Though granted I'm not sure what that jump might be like, as mine are only 4s, but I never bothered getting them stretched by another person as there's not too much that could go wrong as long as you go about it in the right way. unless you have a low pain tolerance.

The plastic tappers are shit and that's how I got my ears messed up and had to go to the place I get my tats and piercings. If I go online and get the metal tappers I might be able to do it myself. If I end up ripping them again, I'll have to go back to them anyway.

It shouldn't be THAT painful, because you don't want to rip your ears. It takes a while for them to heal back up. There's no permanent damage until someone rips their ear and keeps expanding it.

There's no other place I can locally get metal tappers. So I would either have to order them or go to the shop.

I have one tattoo and that is it. It is the only one I have and will ever get because it has a lot of value to it and I will never regret it because of the reason I got it, so I don't mind tattoos and piercings but I have no plans to get anymore. I think the reason behind getting tattoos and such, has to be a very good reason and something you will not regret later in life. Like getting a tattoo of a girlfriends name, I think is a really bad idea.

I despise all piercings but one. Any piercings other than the one I do like is an instant turnoff; even a pierced lobe could make me lose interest in the most attractive person I can imagine, even if they took it out I'd know the hole is there.

The one piercing I do like (and I absolutely love it) is a pierced left eyebrow, the piercing the same as the one Ran posted but located on the middle-left of the left eyebrow.

Tattoos can be more varied, but if I dislike one it's also an instant and permanent turnoff.

I love body art. Not for ulterior purposes, just to beautify and feel free to control my looks. I have limits though; I wouldn't get something that would cause me inconvenience. Piercings, I only have my labret now, which is my cherished one that I don't think I'll let go of until I'm 80. My ears have been through hell over the years but I gave up earrings entirely a few years ago. Tattoos, I have four individual artworks, all proudly conceived, designed, and drawn by me.

I had my left ear pierced twice when i was a teen. First time I had the backing stuck in my ear from getting into a fight, and ended up taking it out. Second time i had it pierced, I took it out simply because i wasn't interested in the maintenance involved. I don't mind some piercings on the opposite gender, though I find tattoos to be unattractive. I have no real desire to get any tattoos myself.

No peircings myself, but I like them on girls. Not sure why though. Two tattoos, a solid black maple leaf on the inside of my left bicep and a date in roman numerals across my ribs under my right pectoral. Both have long stories. Anyway, I plan on getting more if only because the act of receiving a tattoo is just way too fun. Good endorphin kick.

Personally I thought about a tattoo or a piercing. Just, in my case, they wouldn't make me feel anymore like "me". Nor would they even be a form of a expression. Plus, the old saying goes "Don't judge a book by its cover". Fine by me, I just don't want the expression pointed in my direction. Course maybe some people get off on that, the confrontation.

Also, the whole idea of getting a tattoo remind you of something or someone important is sorta silly. I mean what if that person were to be like "So you had to post-it note yourself to remember, how INTP of you." :P I mean if its important enough to make permanent, then god help you if you can't keep the gem of a memory in your head.

Course in the end, doesn't really matter what I think.

I find facial piercings to be ugly and meaningless. Youth who get them only get them to be part of some stupid "scene." Idiot conformists. I'm 17.

Tattoos can be art though; if they have meaning to the canvas. I want to get an eye tattooed in the center of both my palms.
