Taking advantage of an Ne auxiliary

In another post we've been discussing the problems with having an auxiliary - Ne in this case, though the discussion applies to all types. This is because the auxiliary is opposed to the aims of the dominant, but isn't diametrically opposed as is the inferior. We spend most of our lives in our dominant, if extraverted then we have an introverted auxiliary, and if introverted then an extraverted auxiliary. Because they are opposite (E-I or I-E) the auxiliary tends to be ignored.

Interestingly, this is much more so in Extravert dominants who may not even engage their aux until well into midlife. This is simply because it's an external world that we all have to engage in. As an extraverted dominant you easily may ignore the introspective world and still function at a high level. Introverts have no choice, we have to use our extraverted facilities (Ne & Fe) to engage with the world.

A personal example is my ESTJ father. He really has no interior life, or a shallow one. It was a great insight for me to realize that he truly only processes things externally. Since that I've been providing him insights, which would be troubling for others to do to me (why are you telling me what I already am thinking about?), but for him is a needed push.

Regardless the idea of this post is to point out how necessary it is for people to actively consult with their auxiliary. A sure fire way to recognize that you're not doing this is when you get desperate and feel there are no open options. Actively "performing" your auxiliary should easily help you navigate the dilemma you're dealing with.

I see this play out with many people around me. An INFJ feels trapped and lonely, she doesn't have enough friends. This is an example of somebody not consulting their Fe auxiliary adequately to see all the friendship possibilities that are available.

I see several INTP's (and many more on this board) who feel stuck in their purpose and work. No way out! Oftentimes they fold and either do nothing (which makes it worse) or take up some work that doesn't suit them. At these times is exactly when the person needs to consult Ne and see the possibilities around them.

I agree. I find exploring possibilities provides a good giggle when stuck in a rut (when I remember to do it). And it's important to explore options even when not stuck. I am too often surprised by information that doesn't fit my conception of some situation and that would not have been hard to find, if only I had looked.

Speaking of information, I'm curious to know how serious Architect is about being "professional INTP." Do you find such an identification, even if only partly serious, blocks you from appreciating aspects of yourself that may not fit with your INTP model?

I'd call it orthogonal. imagine cognitive functions being vectors. Ti points to the right, Ne to the bottom. It may seem like Ne is not helping but if there is an obstacle in your path, and you're stuck in Ti, you will bump into it
Code:
------->O
with a much bigger 'O'. you will be stuck in life untill either the obstacle moves or someone shoves you.

mastering Ne helps
Code:
------- O
       \
        ------->

Ti-Fe has exactly opposite preferences, can't get more opposite than that. Calling them vectors doesn't add anything.

I'm gonna have to go with architect.

Fi doms vs Fe doms
I work well for the most part when it comes to infps
Enfjs are too nice and they probably percieve me to be the most awkward human being on earth

Logically speaking, how can an introverted rational judging function be MORE opposite to another introverted rational judging function? You see so many posts about "am I infp or intp" because they are so alike, perhaps their beliefs are totally different, but they work the same way. It would have to be the extraverted feeling function that's opposite
Ti wants to look deep down and dissect a system, while Fe seeks to harmonize the system objectively as a whole

You can do see this with both judging and percieving functions.

Ne wants to find new IDEAS objectively using what's outside
Si stores FACTS from the outside, inside.
The fact that they they work together fairly well doesn't mean that they are alike

Would you say Te is the opposite to Fe? They both WORK the same way, but their motives can be totally different.

You only let Ti cooperate with Fe if you want Your Ti to cooperate with Fe

In terms of how a function is is used, Ti opposite to Fe
In terms of motive of function Ti opposite to Fi.

in my view Ti and Fe aren't any more opposite than metal and rubber in car wheels. one without the other is dysfunctional. (there are dissociated incarnations of these functions in individuals that appear antagonistic)

The simple careless error of intps. Oh joy

You've summed up my entire post with A sentence thanks

Ti tells you how you could pull something of and Fe tells you what immediate effect it will have on your mood and the moods of others. without Fe, you have no reason to think.

you are that sad robot from hitchhikers guide, who feels that he is finished thinking and that the conclusion is in, everything is universally pointless. because Ti is about figuring out how to go about the businesses of thinking (and managing, organizing your concrete or abstract shit) in the most subjectively effective manner. and not thinking at all is the most effective thought form. except it accomplishes nothing and shows zero appreciation of the gift of life. now your esfj mother thinks you are being a selfish looser and you need electro shock therapy. she is on to something. being depressed ain't fun. I'm sorry, i won't talk about it no more.

(i am not addressing anyone in particular)

a true psychological opposite would be Ti and Fi - while they have similar jobs, one individual could never combine them, precisely because of similarity. you can't go left and right at the same time.

Pretty much this
In terms of how a function is is used, Ti opposite to Fe
In terms of motive of function Ti opposite to Fi.

IxTP: I want to pursue a career in medicine, i want to use my thinking abitlites to help the general whole.(motivator knowing he has thinking abiltites to be a good doctor)
ExFJ: I want to pursue a career in medicine, i want to help the general whole by finding drive to motivate myself to learn all the things needed to be a good doctor.

MBTI after all are preferred preferences
