is your house a clutter hut of items that remind you of the good ol' days?

my collections range from old tractor seats and double-trees, to dolls and old toys- can't seem to resist something that has even remote sentimental connections. my house is running out of room yet i can't bear to part with anything.
being an old fart i have had many years to accumulate- i see something and its "OMG i remember those, i gotta have one".
going through boxes that have been put away for years is like digging for treasure

i just realized the question would not likely apply here as few of you are old enough to really experience nostalgia - but you may someday......hmmmmm, so i'm just thinking out loud .......again.........plus i'm bored

you're an artist? my mother was very talented- i only did oil portraits for a while until it became demanding and too much like a job. although i don't paint anymore i still try to visit the museum when the renaissance masters are on display. what media and style do you prefer?

Though I love the look of oil paint, I find it really tedious as well. I like working with mixed media, printmaking, charcoal, and acrylic. As for style, I like abstract art, Renaissance masters (particularly Leonard Da Vinci's sketches), Japanese art (anything from prints to anime), Paul Cezanne, and Alberto Giacometti.

why is oil tedious? Can't you paint wet on wet? (I mean, can't that be done? not Can't YOU do it? :-) )

It's possible, but it's really easy for the colors to run together. Also, it takes forever for it to dry and it smells bad. And it's hard to go over your mistakes. You can't just paint over it with white. Even the first layer of paint shows through.

My room is fossilized on the ground level... when I try to clean it, some remnant of my past will distract me...

I'm a horder. But living in my house is kind of like living in a memory. I've been living in the same place since I was two, and I've only got one memory of living outside it; waking up from a scary dream at the age of 1.

Spot on!

Now I'm moving house all manner of stuff is emerging.

But I wouldn't classify nostalgia as sweet. At least mine isn't.

Personal nostalgia causes me discomfort. Maybe that has more to do with the nature of my past than anything, but when I get the feeling that the past won't quite let me go... *shudders*

I appreciate the history in objects to which I have no attachment.

Aww.

Maybe you'll find a Bob Marley CD among the clutter. That'll cheer you right up.

I'm only 18, but it took a very long time for me to get rid of all the old junk I had from my childhood
