Hello. I was wondering. Are you guys surrounded by stupid people all day? I mean, if i didnt know better, id think that my life was set in a retard camp, where the mentally disabled go to feel special about themselves. Everyday i go to college, and i deal with stupid people and even stupid proffessors, who seem to just be in their jobs for the money. I thouhgt that going to college, id meet smarter people my age, and be treated as an adult. I dont usually use the word "smart", but i dont know what other term to use. But i was sadly mistaken. The only proffessor i have that has an idea of whats going on is my narcisistic history professor, who greatly intimidates me and makes me have panic attacks whenever i enter his class.

Yes, there are a few smart people, but these are mostly older kids in my classes who are taking these classes for there degree. I was really hoping a more diverse croud in college, maybe ill transfer, because my college is pretty small, about 2000 students, most of them being girls, and i think that after my college experience, i wiil stereotype girls as being fucking morons.

I dont know what i want i guess. Maybe just someone i can have a conversation with about things that interest me, which i have never done before, except online. Thats why im on this forum, because i can actually talk to people and they know what im talking about. And id love to have proffessors that at least act like they ar interested in their job. In my tuesdays and thursdays i have sociology ans psychology, in sociology, the lady is incredibly biased, and i dont know how that works with a sociolgy teacher. My psych prof, because im in a class full of over enthusiastic retarded girls, just laughs and encourages them. We actually had a 30 minute discussion on headaches and scars, because each girl had to tell a story about how they got this scar, or what kind of headache they had. fuck. I took a psych test today, and the questions were rediculously confusing and based completely on vocabulary. Who ever has the best memory wins.

Am I the only one that has the good luck of being around idiots all day? Or does this happen to everyone here too?

just because other people hold different interests/socialize differently from yourself doesn't automatically make them stupid. not to mention, your perceptions are sort of short-sighted; you don't know these people, who are you to judge their intelligence?

Haha sorry. I just had a bad day today. Your absolutely right. I guess im just frustrated because ive got all these classes that are supposed to be interesting, but all the people in the class dont know what theyre doing. Im sure they arent stupid at all. I bet most of them dont even wanna be in the class. Hopefully as college progresses i will get into classes that everyone wants to be in.

allow me to let you in on a rather sobering fact: by definition and through the bell curve, one half of the population has double digit intelligence quotient scores. if you want to quibble about the tests and their validity, fine, but those are the facts as they currently stand. your frustration with psychology class perhaps has more to do with the educational system and preferred modality of learning than the intelligence of your peers per se. the professors eat up personal anecdotes because they are ostensibly germane to the course, render the class more lively for extraverted, female, and feeling students on the whole, and provide the professor some respite to catch his breath. as an aside, my advice is to not overly concern yourself with grades because the tests are gimmicky and tailored to b and c students - much like our schools - and, well, cees get degrees. cheers!

Yup. you hit the nail on the ass. The education system is pretty fucked up. I dont care about grades. My parents tell me im stupid because i get average grades. Then i tell them that grades are, for the most part, completely based on memory in most classes. I mean some of these questios were rediculous.

Haha. I made this thread when i was angry. As i read it over it, i realize what a huge dick ass i am when im actually angry, which doesnt happen very often.

Ive been sick for like a week, ive had tons of shit to do, im being forced to play sports, and i cant sleep. Just got on cymbalta for my depression issues, hopefully that helps. But this thread was from raw anger and bullshit.

Its not that people are stupid, its actually not one single factor at all. People take these classes who dont need to, so they arent interested in it and that makes them look stupid, compared to my vast knowledge of psychology, most of them are just starting. My standards have been too high for my peers. Then you have a proffessor who has to appeal to the majority, which is extraverted Fe girls, which is just annoying to me. They arent stupid...well one girl is, i wana fukin punch her in the throat shes so annoying...but besides her i should just let them be the way they are. I cant change their personalities. They were raised in a certain way which makes them who they are, as was I. My anger comes from how the education is set up. It is set up for the people who have the best memory, and certain personality types. Im sure Adymus can tell you what personality school is built for.

Trying to connect is not mutually exclusive from teaching for the money. Nobody would have a job they didn't get paid for. That's called volunteering.

My honest opinion is that you don’t find people very interesting at all; you’re more interested in ideas that people’s opinions raise than people and their minds... for whatever reason hmmm maybe you haven’t realized yet how much information can be gained from people?

Anyway, yes I have had conversations that about things that interest me when I realised that just because the other person doesn’t want to talk about a topic doesn’t mean you have to avoid the subject of interest... only it has never worked out well I don’t usually let myself think in conversations because I become frustrated at the ‘mistakes’ others make and try to force knowledge upon them. Still I find people very interesting; the idiots are the most interesting ones sometimes.

It’s impossible for there to be no interesting people! It is however entirely possible for there to be no people who interest you... actually come to think of it, as much as I adore interesting people they are forever disappointing me... they seem so interesting, their actions so unpredictable and I search happily for a logical theory to describe their unusual behaviour but once I have one it’s like I logic crushes the mystery that person used to have and they’re just like everyone else now.

Dude, there are always two sides to people. We have both E and I parts. In public I'm a boring stick of wood, but in the company of close friends I can be the most interesting person within a 2-mile radius. It's the same for Extroverts. On the surface they are all the same but when they are away from the public they calm down and become more interesting(non-stereotypical, I mean).

I wouldn't use the word intelligence, because this is hard to asses because of its variety. I would say I'm surrounded by people who are not logical-minded. I hate to say it, but the world is not designed for people who value logic over all else, it is designed for shallow thinkers and conformists who are motivated by personal agendas. Those who are logical enough to be valuable to society will no doubt have to make some sacrifices to their moral values.

I know what you mean about professors. I had this one history teacher, a young extroverted chic (20s), and the tests would be extremely annoying simply because of the wording of the questions. She rarely adhered to a logical sentence-form that was clear about what it was asking, so one "translation" of the question would necessitate a different answer than other "translation" thereof. And another thing, the mid-term and final had a ton of questions that were quoted directly from a textbook (practically fill in the blank style)! This means that even if you understood the major themes/events you'd have to have a good memory to answer.

Excluding some highly disciplined majors, most of college is just a further continuing of the conformity machine of mainstream culture. Just teaching you how to think and make decisions based on pre-determined criteria.

Now, to actually answer the question. I have been extremely fortunate not to be surrounded by stupid people. I have come to the conclusion that this anomaly is due to the fact that despite how horribly underfunded and probably mismanaged my school district is, the framework for handling gifted students is actually quite good. It also helps that nearly half of my teachers are ridiculously rich/married to ridiculously rich people. They actually aren't in it for the money. No, I take that back. Waaaay more than half of them.

But, to be fair, I've found that many "stupid" people are actually smart, and many "smart" people are actually stupid. It's a surprisingly even distribution, so far as I can tell. (No kidding, it's really weird, but I have seen this).

And besides, I found myself thinking the other day, "I love idiots." I genuinely thought that. Can you imagine how boring the world would be without idiots?

Allow me to clarify: People tend to judge others' intelligence/lack thereof hastily, often due to confirmation bias. Often this involves misaligning certain opinions with either intelligence or stupidity with no real effort to understand that person's reasoning. Now that's not to say all opinions or reasoning are valid, but people often misjudge someone to be stupid when they are simply incorrect, which happens to everyone. This happens alot in large groups where there simply isn't enough time to really get to know most people, so one wrong statement and you're forever a hopeless dummyhead to some people. This is the world of speed-dating, after all.

The same thing happens on the 'smart' end too. Some people will consider you a genius if you happen to agree with them on certain issues. Nevermind how you came to those opinions, if you agree then you must be smart! You see this alot with atheism, because apparently not believing in a god takes super brain powaaah just to rise above religion's relentless attempts to steal your brains.

Not to mention, people can even be stupid in many many ways (I know I am) and still exhibit intelligence in other areas. Some of the 'dumbest' people I've met have held some of the most valuable wisdom. If you dismiss people too quickly, you might miss out on something you'd appreciate -- or not, who knows.

I used to think like that, but then one day I realized that they were not stupid (in most cases) but I was just smarter. I don't expect too much out of most people. If they do seem to be somewhat intelligent then my behavior towards them doesn't really change much.

I do find all kinds of people interesting. I understand INTPs and at the most I chuckle when I find out. However, the other types really fascinate me. I like to analyze strange behavior and even common behavior and see how they relate to other people. So I'm able to see the different types of intellect that others have and understand their worth. That includes the worth that I don't yet understand but it IS there. I feel that all people make up a strong hierarchy when put in the right place. It's all about understanding roles.
