So, I hate it when I'm trying to tell a story I JUST heard, and forget half of it, because I'm trying to get the delivery just right. I've had several moments in my life when I finish telling a joke, and the punch line fails because I forgot to mention... [Damnit, now I can't think of the part of THIS story.]

...

No really. That part is gone now. Does this happen to anyone else?

I end up having to go on eleven different tangents to explain the parts I left out.

oh god the tangents.

yea i don't tell stories I tell tangents. So many that your head will spin.

Don't you just love the confused look on the person's face when they are trying to follow your intuitive jumps?

"sigh.... ok let me take a step back and break it down step by step for you. What?! No! wait! where are you going??"

That or you try to tell jokes that you came up with and everyone gives you the, "I don't understand stare".

Occasionally, the random quiet guy in the back row will chuckle from time to time, but I'm not sure if that is better or worse for the situation. I'll figure it out when I care enough.

Tell unfunny memes or use more pop culture references.

Mmhmm. Most of the things i do in life are just for the priceless looks on peoples faces.
Telling very tangentous stories.
Acting extremely neurotic and touchy feeling/ invasive in public.
Being impressively intelligent and serious out of nowhere.

Makes my day a whole lot funner.

Veh. Not telling.
Somehow I can't manage to transfer the exact "sensation" the certain story gives me the first time I heard it.

Why did the chicken cross the road?
To kill itself or, metaphorically, "get to the other side."

I am a terrible joke teller (or anything scripted) so I don't tell them. I am funny if I am in a good mood and relaxed and unscripited. I tend to stammer if I have to remember lines AND communicate AND be funny AND not look like an idiot. Too much going on in my head for smooth delivery of a joke. I also don't tell them because of that one time I delivered it right (probably drinking) and then subsequently "hey Aramea, tell that joke again" crap. I look like a stubborn ass refusing to do it.

I agree on the one-liners. I can be funny with just the right pop culture reference, usually either movie quotes or song lyrics.

Fuck if I know, why don't you ask him?

It's the same with me, I can be funny and spontaneous on a good day, but sometimes my humor goes over the average person's head.

Hmmm.... I really dont know.
For me, all the things i say that I mean to be funny aren't really funny to anyone but me
When people laugh at something funny that i said, as far as i could tell i had just pointed out the ironic and obvious, but then everyone laughs and it takes a moment for me to realize that everyone thought i was being funny.
I confuse me:confused:

Yep!!! Most people think I "talk down" to them anyway. Ever watch "Larry the Cable Guy"? I watched his moonshine show last night and I think he is much more intelligent than he lets on ...

Yep. For me it's not so much focusing on the delivery, but moreso feeling as if there's way too many details to include that I'm leaving out, thus them not getting the full intended immersion effect of the joke.

I just always make jokes that are not funny at all when I look back at them...
They usually involve some sort of insulting perversion or just general rudeness, really annoying... But at the time I'll find it hilarious haha.

We are one liner comedians.....

Same. I suck at telling jokes, I suck at being funny when I want to be funny.

However, I am actually funny (but others put it as 'dry humor') when I comment sarcastically with 1 line, or mention something random, break the tension with some weird comments. But that's when I don't want to be funny.

I am good at telling scary stories. :)

I have 3 standard memorized jokes. Beyond that my wit (or lack thereof) tends to be spontaneous. I fail at trying any new jokes and story telling has so many missed pieces and loop-backs and tangents of over-explanation that I generally have either a repelling or hypnotic effect on my audience.

Hi CodeOmage something. Here's what I think. Honestly no emotional barriers just straight. I think what people are doing here is share the most fucking negative oppinion about being an INTP, ESFP or whatever.

To be honest the only fact we got about this whole personality thing is that we seem to have chosen similar ways through this test. (We crossed similar answers to specific questions. hurray!) . Sure I like a lot of you guys and girls probably the girls a little more ... you know ... No more drifting off. Here comes the point everyone feels like an outcast sometimes.

I even guess that most intelligent people do feel depressed from time to time because of fucking stupid people. But honestly? Let's categorize people and tell them that there are massive borders between them because they are IN, ES, EF, FU, WTF or whatever. Here comes my presumptions that we are similar in some way - I hate when people try to categorize me and I think the same goes for you.

I came to the conclusion that doing something is better than wining about it. How awesome intelligent and wise that is! Wow :storks:
No one will find answers in a forum, we all know that. But I guess it feels good to see that your own blurred reality is shared by others.
And to come back to your topic. story telling... Where is the problem? If you feel like telling a story do it if not let it be. And even if you fail. failure is always an option. And as a matter of fact failure will give you the option to learn from it and improve. The key is just not to give up. No one fell from the sky and was a master in something. Nor have the best story tellers, comedians, actors or painters always been as good as they are know.

Maybe your concerned what other people may think. Who cares? In the end peoples opinions or what they think are nothing else than their point of view on a specific topic, situation, philosophy or whatever.

I am honestly interested to see some logical, rational responses. Please enlighten me!

This type of forum contains a non-unique pattern. People come together and compare ways in which they are similar. As they become familiar they find ways which they are dissimilar. Eventually, they have a better understanding of themselves and either stay because they enjoy other people on the forum or exit because the questions have been answered or are no longer valid. Really, there's nothing wrong with it...it's all part of that external vs internal self-exploration.
I've seen this pattern on forums about race, disability, hobbies, events, etc...
I don't see a problem with it as I don't see it as others categorizing me but instead people trying to gain better understanding of themselves.

I realize there are funny INTP's.... thats awesome, I look up to you then. That's not who I am though, and I don't care about categorizing it as 'negative' if I'm not funny. I care less. It's just what some of us might have in common. Just like how I envy the organizational skills of an INTJ. I realize some INTP's are organized. Cool! No biggie. Do I envy the talkativeness and emotional outbursts of my ESFJ roommate? Hell no!
I don't think it matters as long as we discuss things as INTP's. A lot of us realize that just because one INTP has a weak area, doesn't mean it's a weak area in all other INTP's. I thought everyone knew that.

I have good joke and story telling abilities. People are usually very interested in what I have to say; although, I don't say much. I would have thought most INTPs would have the advantage of surprise garnering interest...
