If the TIE in TIE fighter stands for Twin Ion Engine then wouldn't it take four years for the TIE fighter to reach 100 kph?

Next-generation ion engine sets new thrust record. Ion engines can get a lot faster than with current technology.

I'm imagining that a civilisation where instellar travel is easy and commonplace, would be able to advance ion engine technology a LOT, probably way more than we can, to the point where it probably would be a really good engine, at least for a 1-man short-range interplanetary spaceship.
