I see both, at will, but this time it started counterclockwise (I'm in the USA). I've seen it before and it could start either way for me. Is there supposed to be some meaning to it? I've never paid much attention to the illusion, though I think it is fun.

I saw it as clockwise and could not get it to turn counter-clockwise. It is clockwise, isn't it?

I've seen it a few times but I don't see it spinning the same way every time. I can make it spin either way I want quite easily as well

I wish it told you whether or not it was clockwise...

It isn't spinning either way, as the whole thing is a solid colour when you focus on something like the leg there is no way to tell whether it is passing in front of or behind the body, if you filmed a real person spinning like this, then turned the film into a silhouette it would look exactly the same whichever way the person was actually spinning

All your eyes actually see is the leg moving from side to side, but your brain interprets it as spinning

Took me quite a while to get from clockwise to counterclockwise, and to do it I had to cover the top half of her body initially.

The only way I could get it to go counter-clockwise was to open another window next to the picture and read something, not even focusing on the picture but could see it in the corner of my eye and only while reading.

I saw it clockwise. As soon as I noted that fact it became counterclockwise and I would not get it to turn back.

Isn't this a repeat thread? It looks to me like she's spinning counterclockwise, but I've seen this before. I can see her spinning either way. I know I'm right brained to a point of impairment. But this is an interesting test.

Neurologically speaking sensing/intuition is connected to right brain, left brain dominance. Emotions are "located" on the vertical axis. People tend to think that emotions are connected to the right brain, but this isn't correct.

I've gone through quite a bit of brain integration therapy.

Hmm, when I tilt my head she goes counter-clock, when I look straight at her clockwise. That's odd...

Gah, this is at least the third thread about this.

And, as I have said every time, the whole right/left brain thing has been mostly discounted. :p

Apologies for the repeat thread.

I agree with the arguments re right brain/left brain theory.

... however, I could not for the life of me get it to spin anticlockwise until i covered my right eye and started doing maths in my head.

???

The best time to change the direction of the spin, for me at least, is at the point when her legs overlap or cover each other.

That was pretty strange. It was going counterclockwise when I first looked at it. I read the text and looked again and it was clockwise.. but I couldn't get it to switch back on my own. I opened and closed it several times and it either popped up one way or another like flipping a coin.. but I can't control it. Anywhoo, I have always tested as having a balanced brain (as far as hemisphere use goes, that is).

I started counter-clockwise, then when I imagined her standing a clock, I could easily manipulate which way she was spinning.

As clockwise, she appears to be spinning with a tilt slightly toward you.
As counter-clockwise, she appears to be spinning with a tilt slightly away from you.

It's difficult to explain, but I believe that this is a silhouette of a clockwise moving person upon these observations (though I once felt that she was spinning in neither direction).

EDIT: I thought of a diagram in which v = the viewer and / or \ = the girl.

clockwise = v \
counter-clockwise = v /

This diagram shows that I am a genius.

I don't think this has to do with brain hemisphere dominance at all (as Jesin said, it's basically discounted); it's just a perceptive illusion with a simple explanation that can help you rotate her in either direction at will:

It's about where you "position the clock". If the clock is below her (12 side away from you), then she appears to be spinning counter (I've never heard the expression anti-clockwise before). If you place the clock above her, mirroring its previous position (12 side nearest you), it will seem that she is going clockwise.

Just me, or does this version spin faster than the old one?

Anyway, I saw her going clockwise, read the text, looked back and she'd switched. Meh. *looks back* Now she keeps switching!

Same with me! I figured out the theory after a while, but it still takes me some time to change the direction. :)
