so, I'm still young person, 20, and for some weird reason, as every human being I need something called self identity; still not certain what this mean, I'm searching for answer, mbti, enneagram, socionics, neuroscience were tools for me to help, but; they didn't help; any suggestions how to learn 'who am I?'?;

It's not possible. You are a collection of modes and behaviours. :smoker:

Put yourself in various situations and observe how you respond.
At least it will tell you something about yourself.

How are you today
Who do you want to be? It says a lot about who you are. But who you want to be isn't necessarily what you think you should be. So who do you think you should be? But you don't always work to become who you think you should be. So what will you become? Regardless of if you work towards it, you will eventually become something. Where are you headed? And then backtrack. What aspects of yourself are you not satisfied with to the point that you'd change them to something else? But if you're not satisfied with something, why is it like that in the first place? Where did that tendency come from? You had to react to something at some point in some way (or else you're nonexistent) and that reaction can clue you into why you reacted that way.

You're posting here, so we could conjecture that you want to know who you are. But why would you want to know who you are? So you know what to do in the future. So what you're looking for is a purpose, and an understanding of who you are, and the key is just to look at what makes you happy, why, and if you like how you are or not.

You would sort of have to live a single life out in society to really get a grasp on what your identity is. If there's no contrast which you can compare and ponder with it's sort of hard to form an identity. Self identity has to do more with roots rather than personality. Like what kind of life attitudes and values you were passed on to as you were growing up, what cultural milieu you were brought up in. Sociologically speaking self identity is more of a combination of an awareness of your past, awareness of your present self, and an aspiring for a future vision of yourself in the mists of the you now and the you of your roots. I would say self identity is more declarative in nature.

Can't help much with the inquiry, as I feel the same way. Not as dramatic as being full-blown dissociative, or suffering from depersonalization disorder. It just becomes apparent when communicating with different people that my behaviour is largely an act, or sometimes just an imitation of others. It happens with most people, except for those I know well.

Existence precedes essence. There isn't a "you" to speak of. A very hard idea to come to terms with. I don't know anyone who has but trying to figure out who one is seems to be the first step of everyone on the path towards grokking that there's no "one" to begin with. All the best, fellow comrade. :)

what need is there for inconsequential containers like identities and names when we are not always one thing? instead, why don't we all aspire to become cute little anonymous clouds of collective ideas? ☆゚.*・。゚✿

Your idea of who you are will always be a simplified inaccurate idea of yourself, the idea itself is also part of yourself. Why should one want to limit himself to a simple version of him?You are a large sum of atoms,10 word,1000 words,10^10 words can not describe the super complex system that is you.

any suggestions how to learn 'who am I?'
There are two popular ways to do so:

  1. Remember things about yourself, times when you were not struggling with a self identity but basically were distracted with something else. Infer statements about yourself from what you remember/what others tell about you.

This approach is used to make excuses about one's own behavior. "Oh I was so lazy today... but I'm always lazy, so it's okay, it's just WHO I AM."
    .
  2. Go inside yourself and figure out what it is what you want to be doing, what would feel right to be doing right now. Do you want to "save the world" or do you want to leave a contribution behind when you die.

This approach is used to justify irrational behavior but also has the side effect of making you feel good.
Your original question can be by a stretch of imagination answered by one of these two approaches, but it doesn't mean that the answers ARE true answers to an otherwise nonsensical question.

In short: Self identity is a linguistic construct of a conscious brain, for use as a shortcut in most day-to-day decisions.

More involved: We don't repeat thought mental processes too often. E.g. if you're asked the same question several times, you will remember the answer in an effort to avoid a repeat energy drain from figuring it all out again.

First-order deduction is a logical step that requires very little effort. E.g.: A cat can purr, Tom is a cat, therefore Tom can purr. A self identity is a assertion about yourself and takes the form "I am <identity-fragment>.". Many identity fragments can coexist to build one whole identity. These fragments are used in the same way to subconsciously and immediately infer your next actions. E.g.:

I am a secretary,
secretaries forward calls,
therefore I am going to forward this call.

People love to read about themselves. Actually they love to read about things they self-identify with, to expand or fortify their own cage without having to change their identity, because if you hinged your action on an identity for too long, the investment will chain you as a slave to the identity and removal will be torturous.

Most humans, being lazy asses as you all know you are, strive to acquire a self identity to do less mental work in the future. You don't need one, in the sense that you can well survive and even be high-functioning without a self-identity.

The pertinent question is why do you feel you need something called "self identity?" In other words, what are you really looking to find out? What career you're best suited to? What kind of person you should have a relationship with? Where you should live (country, climate, city vs. town vs. rural)? What kind of hobbies/beliefs you should cultivate? Chances are, one of these or something else is the real issue and "self identity" is just a proxy.

Seconded. For social situations in particular. People are a mirror, and being around people can tell you a lot about yourself. One of the main problems schizoids have is they their self-image is distorted. They see themselves as "lone wolves", or the like. Something like Wolverine. In reality, they very often look stupid, like I did for a long time. And not caring about that is no solution at all, social image is a huge factor in determining how successful you are in life.

Are you in uni now? What major? I remember you wanted to major in CS. That's actually a great example, I did much better in my job that most of my peers, even though many of them are much more skilled in computer systems that I am. That's because I learned to craft a much better social image. I can talk and relate to people, basically, many of them can't.
