So I have a lot of trouble with sensing in general, but a couple of weeks ago, I had this amazing experience out of the blue, and I think I turned into an experiencer for a couple of minutes. I will describe my experience, but I'm very curious to know if anyone else has trouble with Se and if you have ever had any experiences like this, and what were they? Did they come to you out of the blue or do you do something that brings about sensing?

My experience: I had been working late, and I was walking home across campus. It was nearing the end of twilight. There was lots of snow on the ground (flat smooth snow) and on the pathways there are huge trees (with no leaves right now). It wasn't very cold, but it was breezy. So I happened to look to the left of me and I saw the most incredible thing: the shadows of the branches were moving across the snow!!! It was the most amazing dark blue coloured snow, with the black branches moving across it, and no one else was around. I just stood there, watching the huge branch shadows and feeling the wind, stunned for a couple of minutes. I wasn't thinking at all, simply observing and feeling. I felt like a different person.

I know exactly what you mean~

Being an INTP, it's a rare moment when this happens to me as well. Yet, in those rare moments that it does happen, it's such an amazing thing! I can't even begin to describe the sense of liveliness that I feel...

It's at those moments when I realize just how dead I usually am. What I mean is that, when these moments occur for me, I feel like I have been dead for years. I feel as though my previous state was completely lifeless in comparison to the life of this new state.

The best way I can explain this for myself is that I "take part" in this world at that moment. Usually, in my Ti state, I am an objective observer of the world - standing at arms length, just watching it - but when in this new state, I choose to step into it.

I've come across moments like this as I've ran the soft desert sand though my fingers, as I've heard the rain falling against my window at night, or as I've closed my eyes and listened to the sound of little children playing and laughing...

My Se comes out fairly often.

An example: My folks live on waterfront property off an inlet to the Chesapeake bay. When I go up to visit, I like to go out on a clear night to their pier and watch the moonlight sparkle against the lapping waves of the water. I'll stay out there for an hour at least and the sensation is incredible.

I can become absorbed by inclement weather. Rain on a tin roof and I'll just lay down and close my eyes to listen.

This is a rare experience for me, although I do like relaxing underwater, it's surreal.
If only I could breath down there, then I could sleep in a quiet weightless environment.

I love these moments. I stayed up till 5 am in the morning on the balcony of an apartment just being. It felt kind of similar to those inspiration moments where you just realize something amazing but it lasts for so much longer. It felt like I was completely at peace.

Nay, but it feels as if I've been lifeless for years. It actually happens perhaps every two weeks or so, but it's really rare when I get to experience one of those moments that didyouknow mentioned, where it last for hours... ^^; ....those are truly amazing...

WOW! You put that so well, that's exactly what it's like!

@didyouknow: Wow, til 5am! That's amazing, I hope that happens to me one day...

@Cog: my earliest memory as a baby is of walking underwater and liking the weird feeling of being there. I almost killed myself...

@Auburn/Jesin: I think it happens about once every two months for me, but I can't remember the last time it happened so intensely as the tree night.

@IB: I love water, I will try that sometime, that sounds wonderful.

The Se experience is part of why I love making detailed art. It gives my senses a trip. I don't think, I just simulate textures, shadows, light, edges and movements.

These things never last long enough. My Si is much more developed than my Se, so most of my sensing is done after the moment, rather than in it. I'll sit for hours reminiscing about the past, but present experiences always seem to slip through my brain's fingers.

This thread reminds me of my stepmother. She's an abstract artist and she loves going to shopping centres and walking around feeling the different texture of the clothing. :)

Water is my fundamental stimulus for Se moments, whether it be a moonlit walk along the beach or just watching the rain fall on a stormy day.

Same here. I usually have to wait tillI have time to go over my day to "notice" something.

As far as Se goes I am either Oblivious to everything or will notice 1-2 details that caught my eye and hyper focus on them to the exclusion of all else.

Ditto, what the hell is wrong with our survival instinct?

ehhh, i love nature, but I don't just look without thinking... that would be rather boring?

when I sit in the forest and appreciate sounds, light, etc. I am connected with it. Nature is so perfect, it makes me think. I think bout what im seeing, it's a relief though, to mainly have the freedom to be responsible to yourself only. As you wander around, and well, it just doesn't care if you're there or not, but at the same time you're part of something perfect.

Simply, stepping into nature is a collected effort. I can feel all of my 4 Si Ne Ti Fe processes.

It's a Ne+Si experience, definitely, then together with abit of feeling, and analyzing the sorroundings.

That is weird.

I suppose curiosity trumps that instinct thingy...

Perhaps the instinct was not developed sufficently to understand it as a threat. Ignorance can lead one into danger.

Yes perhaps. Of course babies don't know about water, etc. But for some reason my younger siblings were much more cautious babies...

hmmn I have these kind of moments quite frequently. I'm not so sure about calling it "Se", though. Maybe it is... hmmn

I have similar moments often enough, but the common denominator is the presence of music and my being relatively alone. Whether through earbuds, speakers, or from instruments directly, music is always present when I am at my happiest and most peaceful moments. I even get that way sometimes when I'm all alone in the house and playing piano. Nobody in the house, nobody listening, nobody praising me or not praising me. Just me and my music.

I often go for long walks with just my Sansa (iPod substitute). I'll find a quiet spot and just sit, alone with my thoughts, my music, and the wind in my hair.

Heck, I'm just smiling thinking about it. Now I want to go for a walk.

Maybe they had experiences different to yours or they learnt/reasoned how it was a danger fast through subconscious processing.

Unusual Se that do give me intense pleasure:

- the perfect strike with a tennis racket (or, as I suspect, a golf club)
- scribbling down my signature (seriously :D)

Quick question: Is this really our Se acting when we notice this beauty? I don't think that it's certain that it is...

What about sleeping in strange places?

It can be quite nice having a nap on a grassy hill under the shade of a tree.
Just trusting people for half an hour, to some degree anyway.

Se experiences make me panic. At first, I can see the beauty, but after that, there's just too much information to absorb. Places that are not stereotypically 'beautiful' appeal to me greatly; that's why I enjoy being in cities. It's so interesting to see what humanity is able to create or build.
