a thread for reviewing things of any type that you have encountered
thought box
the technological society has finally created a product which can block out the dystopic hellscape it has delivered which increasingly evidently has driven us all mad and from which escape seems impossible
blurring the distinction between ever more specialised consumption as a means to supposedly enrich life and satirical commentary on the monstrosity of life defined by consumption, the thought box promises the user a space safe for introspection without intrusion from corporate and political messages or distraction by the plethora of products and carefree entertainments displayed everywhere on screens and in the places where we live and work
i fear however that by shutting out these sources of constant distraction the hapless consumer will be forced to confront the crumbling narratives of civilisation and examine the discordance between the models of consumption which underpin the modern world and the habitability of the planet, between increasing material wealth and worsening mental health, between what human beings actually need and what the society has manifested and that a reality more horrifying than the one from which they sought refuge will be revealed to them. perhaps it would feel safer to stay at the circus than to stare down impending annihilation
i concede that it is potentially useful for less existential situations where one is forced to sit awkwardly among unpleasant strangers for extended periods of time such as at airport lounges and family gatherings. alone at last indeed!
