I only have experience with software for web applications but what about planes or embedded devices? I'm sure there are systems in planes which are synched or tested using software. Flying people around in a metal container can be life threatening.

The electronics are stamped by electrical engineers most of the time, in my experience. The shells and mechanics are usually stamped by aeronautics, aerospace, or mechanical engineers. I've worked on plane designs before.

As ENTP I find implementation too tedious in some languages. Cut the fluff I'm just lazy. Java is bigger brainfuck than the brainfuck language itself. I prefer compact expression. Imagine that we were doing mathematics in a way that we code Java. I like to think that there has to be formula out there. It reminds me of joke about mathematician, engineer and physicist in burning hotel. I relate to very much of thinking that there is a solution and don't see the point to actually save myself.

As career I don't think so but as hobby and tool programming is OK.

I've never heard of a software engineer having his or her license revoked and sent to prison for negligence or stupidity.

Because software engineers DON'T HAVE TO BE LICENSED to write software. There's no certification or approval process to do it, which is why some of the most famous ones (Bill Gates, Zuckerberg, Jobs) never finished school. Sorry but you're talking out your ass here. Feel free to respond but I'm not going to follow up anymore.

Maybe, I'm getting caught up in the terminology. In a lot of countries, including Canada, where I'm from, the term engineer means a licensed professional engineer or someone who drives a train. It's dictated by law. In China, it's different; what we would call a technologist they also lump in with engineer. I know some people in the US like to put engineer in the title of a lot of positions that don't need it. One of my first US contracts had me looking over machine designs for CNC equipment. I noticed that the drawings weren't to standard and asked if there was someone who could answer my questions. They sent me a "sales engineer." He didn't know jackshit. He said he was just a salesman. WTF? The way I was brainwashed, I mean educated, was that an "engineer" was trained in taking the laws of physics and putting them to practical use in everyday life with a physical, tangible object.

I found these to be interesting:
