I am quite the music junkie. This is music I have listened to/plan on listening to. I omitted lots of artists I used to listen to when I was a kid(Limp bizkit and ICP for instance HA!) because I just cant stand it. And if you can believe it, I'm still constantly searching for the next thing. I see based on this music forum that people here have an incredible variety of taste, most of it being pretty obscure.

Right now I want to expand my hip hop, reggae, dub, electronic(kind of getting into this), 60s and 70s blues and prog, JAZZ(have none), OH and definitely CLASSICAL music. I have no classical music :(

Random thought: Would it be possible and/or better or more efficient to somehow just link to an online playlist?

Can one simply upload a list of contents from their ipod online somewhere? Would it be feasible for us to create/link to our youtube playlists?

Also, the OP must burn for eternity for omitting Soundgarden from the list.

I'll just recommend some Jazz since you pretty much already have a good grounding in the other stuff I like.

I bolded excellent jazz intro albums, seriously, go nuts with them.
Sun Ra

/Space is the Place
/Atlantis
/The Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra
/Sound of Joy
/Lanquidity
/Jazz in Silhouette
Eddie Gale / Eddie Gale's Ghetto Music
Miles Davis
/ Birth of the Cool
/ Kind of Blue
Lee Morgan / The Sidewinder
Grant Green
/ Idle Moments
/ Matador
Horace Silver
/ Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers
/ Song for My Father
John Coltrane / A Love Supreme
Lou Donaldson / Hot Dog
Vince Guaraldi / Vince Guaraldi Trio
Bill Evans
Portrait in Jazz
The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings(includes the catalogs of the two albums below)
Waltz For Debby
Sunday at the Village Vanguard
Hank Mobley / Soul Station
Herbie Hancock
Head Hunters
Empyrean Isles
Alice Coltrane / Journey in Satchidananda
Ornette Coleman / The Shape of Jazz to Come
Pharoah Sanders / Karma

Dale Cooper Quartet and The Dictaphones / Parole De Navarre (cinematic noir-themed music)
Madlib / Shades of Blue (hip hop / jazz remix)
A Tribe Called Quest / The Low End Theory (hip hop)
I love the Hammond organ(and like a few ICP tracks), by the way.

Yeah, we can do that instead. It would be a much better way of introducing music to a new listener. People are uploading full albums with good quality onto youtube now, so having an ipod full of mp3s is becoming pretty obsolete anyway.

I'm sure we can find uploading sites, but chances of it being on youtube already are pretty high. Im too lazy to upload anything anyway. Really, I just wanted to namedrop all the bands I like. I will make a playable list later tho, picking one song per top 20 artist or something.

I am also aware that I do indeed suck for never listening to Soundgarden. I had been meaning to for years, but they always kind of slipped my mind. Which album do you think is their best?

Hell yes. This is what I was hoping for. I'm trying to expand my palate and I've never known a good starting point for Jazz. Thanks.

And I agree on Hammond organs. I'm just learning to appreciate the beauty of that instrument. I fuckin want one so bad.

Yea, they make everything sound great lol. I also love Grant Green's guitar playing, but I was unsure of boldening his stuff as an intro.

edit: Nevermind. Can't work out how to copy/ paste youtube playlists here.

But I recommend Mogwai (post-rock), Sonic Youth & The Pixies (alternative rock) and Battles & Pivot (contemporary blend of electronic and progressive-rock) based on your list, Panopticon.

I put together a 20 song playlist on grooveshark. A mix of music that appeals to me right now. Lots of "airy fairy shit" in there, some prog, a little metal, and an Andy Rehfeldt remix(love all his remixes on youtube) of an Adele song. None of this stuff is over 3 years old. I try to keep it current.

I really wanted to include this song but it wasnt available. Replace Symphony X with this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8RvJ8N_MS8http://intpforum.com/member.php?u=5841

thehabitatdoctor, thanks I will check both of those out. That way I can be familiar with them in time for their new album. We'll see how that one is.

Puffy, yea Mogwai should have already been there, considering the other post rock bands I listen to. Sonic Youth and Pixies I only know by name, but I have always heard good things. Never heard of that last one, but will check out! Thank you.

I am rather upset at life for not being long enough to listen to every song I want to hear.....
