The summary is very descriptive, providing no explanation as to why this theory holds or how you arrived at it, thus; needing to be taken at face value. I'm skeptic of there being any substance to this really.

A few years after I dropped out of undergrad I developed an interest in psychology. I began studying Jungian archetypes on my own outside of school and after a while realized they can be applied to DSM disorders because of their similarities to disorder traits. It seems as if having archetypes dominate your personality is an indication of a disorder. Having several prominent archetypes is a sign of a disorder / mental illness.

Hello Kimani, thanks for this thread. Your bolded text is what I was afraid of and led me to start this thread: http://intpforum.com/showthread.php?t=18265. As a brief summary of the exchanges thereon, I consistently have scores like the following even when professionally tested. I am always right at the border of INTP and INFP in my scores. The one below has a 2% spread, often it is even or just one (the one almost always favouring INTP). As I also stated, and as others confirmed, when I read various profiles on INFP and INTP and show them to others, we agree that 75% or more of both apply equally to me. So, if this suggests mental illness or disorder, do you know what kind? My scores on your test were 29/22/18 = designer I believe (but don't get the hero versus old man part). I work in one of the fields you have listed for designer and have wondered, more so in my adult life, whether I have a mild form of Asperger's.

I don't know, the website seems rather dubious.
Don't get too crazy about it and remain calm.

I got you (I envisioned your avatar saying what you said with that gun pointed at me). The responses I've gotten in other threads have helped greatly so all is cool.

You're welcome. If you are INTP or INFP you are definitely the Designer. So the test is accurate. According to http://similarminds.com/ INTPs tend to have Asperger's and INFPs tend to have a mood disorder. I'm glad you have found my theory / assessment beneficial and I hope others here will find it beneficial too.

Was there supposed to be a list of results for the survey?

I took it, all it said was, "Thank you for completing the survey," and I got no results.

Really? It gave me a result, though it wasn't correct. It told me I was a designer, but it should have said charmer based on the fact that I'm lying about having gotten a result altogether.

Regarding the survey, I found a few questions difficult to answer because they contained what were, to me, to dissimilar concepts. For instance, there was a question asking if I have trouble accepting new ideas or leadership from others. New ideas, no problem. Leadership, problem. There where a couple of others, though I don't remember what they asked exactly. I don't know if that's an issue or not: it just pushed me to answer 'neutral'.

On both sites you'll need to score it yourself (in your head or on paper) to get results. On the survey site I'm the only one that can get the results which is why underneath the survey I've outlined how to score everything so you can have results too. the tripod site isn't interactive so it's basically all just directions.

I have added three new archetypes to the theory and thirty new questions that adress the new archetypes.

I got Designer. Seems most fitting, although the charmer was also fairly high. The professional was the lowest by far.

I got Designer with a 72. Professional with a 57 and Charmer with a 56. The connection to the DSM was interesting.

tl:dr (just figured out what that means but have yet to figure out how to incorporate the spoiler feature) EDIT:figured it out.

I have been diagnosed using the DSM IV as having Bipolar II Depression. I exhibit symptoms of hypomania (increased energy, rate of speech, grandiosity, lack of long term decision making, poor financial moves/large purchases without becoming delusional or full-on mania) as well as exhibiting clinical depressive symptoms including suicidal ideation.

I go for months in both aspects of the spectrum without approaching the other, some days I exhibit both of the polarities in the same day. Also, generally I have found when I have a purpose in life, I go for stretches of time without feeling either of the polarities and am comfortably able to reside in the middle, I guess this is what is considered normal.

I embrace my hypomania and find that the pharmaceuticals prescribed completely eliminate this awesome (in a controlled environment with obvious boundaries in place) side effect. It is the source of my creativity and have always produced my best work when in a hypomanic state. I share this complaint with a vast majority of the Bipolar II community so far as I have read.

In regards to the depressive symptoms, having outlets for the stresses in life is invaluable and my now extreme introversion has only contributed to this effect. I have been making attempts to reach out and find like minded individuals in whom I can find inspiration, i.e. mentors or role models. This forum has helped immensely in this category.

I also am experimenting with supplementation with fish oil and other mood altering herbs to help regulate my shifts in temperament. Mind-body exercise is next on my list of exploration and have found that sleep patterns and more importantly circadian rhythms and exposure to light have profound impacts on my symptoms.

Alcohol is not good and my temperament is extremely sensitive to this poisons allure. If I am able to keep my consumption in moderation that is a different story but to quote Frank the Tank from Old School "... once it hits your lips its so good!".

Ganja just mellows me out but can heighten anxiety or depression if that is the frame of mind I am in when inhaling/digesting. If I think happy thoughts or put on an absorbing movie then my high has a very balancing effect and brings me back to center. Having an addictive personality is my own worst enemy here however as I constantly desire to be centered via a high and can have expectation gaps when i don't get what I was looking for and spiral into a depressive state.
