What is perfection to you? Does it even exist? Is it achievable? How would you define a perfectionist (apart from "one who pursues perfection")?

God comes to mind. If I didn't believe in God I'd say nothing is perfect, except maybe some other type of otherworldly creature that had all the characteristics of God....just wouldn't call it God, I suppose.

I'm a perfectionist. I know perfection is impossible, but I love mathematical accuracy in everything, buildings, drawings, designs, timespans... It annoys me slightly when I can't stop the microwave at exactly 30 seconds.
It's not really OCD, it doesn't control my life, but I do really like perfection. I'm never done with any project I make.
I hate my face because of it's imperfections. My uneven nostrils and twisted nose really, really make me feel awful. I think I might actually have my nose corrected at some point in life. I think it's a big factor in not wanting to look at people when I talk to them.

Being a perfectionist sucks a lot.

Does it even exist? Is it achievable?
Considering Perfection is an arbitrary word (just as delicious or amazing), the meaning of which varies from person to person, whether it exists depends on what criteria the individual (or situation) in question holds for it - and whether it is plausible to fulfill that criteria in the real world...

What is perfection to you?
That's kinda personal. :kilroy:

(apart from "one who pursues perfection")
I would define hir as an idealist who is incessant in hir ambition to transform reality (or whichever aspect of reality is relevant) to those ideals.

Can only exist in a set system with rules in place in which you can perform perfectly based on those rules. (I.E: Perfect game in bowling), but come to think of it thats true for like any descriptor.

Expanding on this, perfectionism can exist in any situation with a finite number of outcomes. However, if there are an infinite number of outcomes, then perfectionism is only possible by subjectivity, meaning a person imposing their own rules upon the situation.

For instance, someone might deem their "perfect spouse" or "perfect car" something that fulfills a finite set of criteria. Something within a certain price range, that either has or doesn't have certain features, etc.

However, if the universe is grainy (physicists do not yet know if it is or not), then there are only a finite number of states it can exist in, and theoretical perfectionism always exists. Practically though, unless one of the above two conditions were fulfilled (objectively or subjectively imposed rules), the chance of perfectionism occurring would be 0.
