Otaku - A nerd, smart, understands Japanese culture, may believe it is superior.
Otaku - A consumer of Japanese culture. normies.

Otaku - now has the definition previously under Weaboo.
Weaboo - a person that thinks they are Japanese. They follow what happens in Japanese society not their own.
Weaboo - now interchangeable with weeb.
Weeb - a stupid acting person that really, really, really likes Japanese stuff. Derp.
Weebness - the essence of what it is to be weeb.

Otaku - Japanese Anime causes stupidity.

I've heard there's a growing epidemic in japan of people who live in 2x2 meter apartments and play video games 24/7 and never go outside. They had some specific name – not sure if its weeabo or something else

The most common way it is used in Japan is: Social degenerate / Loser.

I never understood the obsession about japanese culture to begin with, especially with non-japanese people, I think it's a bit overrated.

The first Anime I saw was The Super Dimension Fortress Macross.
My dad had a vhs tape with two episodes on it when I was 6 years old.
