There is no frowny face!!!!

Does that seem a bit Orwellian to anyone else?

It's like the forum is trying to make us happy, even if we aren't. Even if it's smothering oppression is sending us spiraling into depression, we cannot express it through the only emotions we have: emotes.

[See what I mean? Wouldn't a frowny face work perfectly here?]

Well, to make this thread a bit more legitimate (just a bit), I JUST FOUND THEM! By 'them', I mean the rest of the emotes. By 'found', I mean clicked on a seemingly empty square which apparently means 'more' and then scrolled as my mouth dropped open. By 'just' I mean thirty minutes and two posts ago. By 'I', I mean me.

I would put my favorite one, but I *really* want to use it in context. So... ideas? Thoughts on this clearly well formulated question and/or idea?

I'd been wondering where all those other emoticons I've seen people use had been coming from, I hadn't thought to click on the empty square.

I read the thread title as "Orwellian similes"

I am somewhat disappointed.

One may see it as an act of caprice, Orwellian editorship or even as an act of hubris to banish emoticons that express sadness from the forum. It is not. It is part social science, part game theory and part of something I read in an ancient Knights Templar manifesto some time ago. When people perceive more sadness than there actually is, they begin to feel sadness because of that very fact. For every true statement, the opposite is also true. My scheme won't make anyone happier but it will make everyone less unhappy. You won't even notice it because humans have a hard time noticing the absence of something. First and foremost it's an experiment but also an effort in actual transhumanism, improving the human condition with means of technology. Such is the plan.

I'm actually surprised an INTP forum needs the amount of emotive expression that it has, I would have expected every emoticon to be::pueh:
or something sorta like this:

smirkhmm.gif

*hmm*
wary.gif

*shifty eyes*
chew.gif

*chew*
un.png

*wft?!*
hehe.gif

*giggle*
shh.gif

*shhh*

We skip unhappiness and go right on over to anger and hatred.

It's close enough.

I'm actually surprised an INTP forum needs the amount of emotive expression that it has, I would have expected every emoticon to be: :pueh:

The Peh (:pueh:) emoticon is the one I want to use most of the time. In the long run though I suspect I use long suffering sigh (:slashnew:) emoticon the most often.

I think it's appropriate that we don't have a frowning emoticon or a crying emoticon. We mostly get distant or angry when we are actually sad right? I only ever cry out of frustration and thus the disgust () emoticon is the handiest for those moments. Besides, we're not a bunch of Fs after all!
