Hi all, totally new to this site and forums in general and to knowing intp was a thing. I always thought I was just a bit "off!"
Anyway I just want to introduce myself, invite people to introduce themselves and maybe give me some foruming tips!

maybe give me some foruming tips!

[Note !! None of these tips is specifically meant solely for INTP forum, but foruming in general !!]

Have fun.

Troll wisely.

Use pictures/gifs and emoticons and colored text if you want to be more expressive.

Have a flavor of individuality.

Respect other people by ensuring your content is digestible and straightforward.

Use links embedded in text.

Use videos where applicable, especially to make humorous cultural references.

Try to impress good quality posting upon yourself as often as you can.

Try to avoid getting angry or aggressive in debates.

Try to avoid posting in every thread.

If you're going to necro an old thread, do it with some class.

Speak your mind.

Post about things you're interested in.

[This one is possibly specific to INTP forum] Open-ended threads get more replies. "Instructional" threads, while they do exist, may not be all that satisfying for conversation.

Don't feed trolls unless they're hilarious and you're 'in' on the troll through metacognition (no invites necessary).

hello all: Suggestions

Speak your mind.
I'd concur with everything Base groove said.

Other possible additions:
1. Listen to what others say
2. Say something in response to what they said
3. If you are diverging from the topic, say so
4. When you speak your mind be aware others could be listening
5. If you are tentative or timid, feel free to say so
6. Feel free to ask questions
7. Respect other posters even if they should be disrespectful themselves
8. Ignore all of the above if the spirit takes you but follow Forum rules

This might seem silly but do you guys like our personality type? I've been looking into it a bit recently and a lot of people seem to be almost frustrated by their "overly analytical" thought patterns. I didnt even know there was such a thing as OVER analysing. I love everything about it and feel like people that dont thouroughly analyse situations are missing out. Would you agree?

Hello and welcome

Yes I like it. I could reason I'd say the same if I was a different type though; although if that were the case then I'd think different and it would have to be for different reasons (possibly).

If you like how you are and aren't frustrated by it then good, don't let it either. Although as you say others who think differently are missing out from not analysing enough, we're also missing out on what they're not missing at the same time.

Personally it doesn't frustrate me either. I enjoy how I think and accept it as it is. Getting frustrated and wishing in hindsight seems like a waste of time to me with too many negative effects.

Have fun here :)

Hi helvette and thankyou!
I guess I could possibly think differently if I was a different type, maybe an en or something but I'm glad I'm not.
With regards to us missing out on what they dont miss, thats a good point but I feel like their missing out and I'm totally not. Maybe thats the intp in me! ;)

I get what you mean but the point is, that's just your perspective; how can you know what you're missing if you're just used to your way of thinking? Try analysing from their perspective and you'd probably come to the same conclusion.

Well I went from loving every part of it to thinking it was a self-inflicted prison that I use to stunt my own growth to finally choosing the middle road and accepting it as a facet of my psyche. I've learned that being INTP has it's own pros and cons and taking advantage of that knowledge has helped my personal development.

There is such a thing as overanalyzing. When I was younger, people tend to comment that I was thinking too much when I'm overanalyzing things (or stressed).

Actually helvete, what I said didnt really make sense, what I mean is, if the people who feel frustrated by their over analytical ways could step into my mind, they might see that their missing out. I refer only to the frustrated Intps. Im posting on my phone atm but tommorow when I'm on my pc I'll post a link that displays this frustration perfectly. As of yet Im not very good at communicating my point through text but I'll get the hang of it.
Basically I think if I hadnt taken the tests that showed I was an Intp and was asked what I'd like to be from the list of types I would have chosen intp.

Lol I'm making way less sense of this post than your previous ones. So if the frustrated ones saw through your perspective, what is it supposed to change? The differences between people within personality types is irrelevant here. They'd still see things analytically and thus still be frustrated for the same reasons as they're still bound to the constructs of a very similar mind. So if I understand correctly, the only way to alleviate the frustration is to either, just accept how they think, learn to think differently or distract themselves with drugs and other attractions :D.
I did have a couple of better ideas, but I forgot. Plus as I've never been in this headspace I'm probably not the best person anyway...

But you should link me up when you can so I know for sure what you mean.

Oh don't worry too much about it. Overanalysis is just a normal stress response in my opinion. However, it might spiral into something worse if you do spend too much time on it.

Sorry Helvette, I got posts mixed up a bit because it took me so long to write a reply, what your saying makes sense. I havent really been thinking about this from other peoples perspective, more just my own.

I still think maybe the people who find themselves over anyltical could benefit from focusing their analysis on things they find interesting. This is fairly easy to me but I realise it might not be for others. I will still post that video though.

Maybe people like us, who are comfortable with the way our minds work, are just the lucky ones.

You're right, but first they need something that interests them. It's easy to get lost in something that clouds your focus, interest and attention; like frustration.

Yeah that's frustration stimulated from the people around him, rather than his thoughts frustrating him on his own.
