I'm just going to start referencing these models in discussions elsewhere, and those involved should feel free to download and explore/follow along (as opposed to posting the above link repeatedly). This really is amazing stuff, and you can build whatever you want.
What can I say? The archives here are amazing and I have... a memory for certain details hoovered up by Ne. I'm not anyone previously banned, to my knowledge at least. No notable past forum life either. Am I smiling a lot? Bit of a nervous reaction. *checks pants for moisture*
*peers intently over non-descript writing pad while taking notes*
I see... 'not to your knowledge', no notable past forum life... mmm....
Tell me, have you ever considered the work of Christopher Alexander as it intersects with the vital revelation of Leopold's land ethic? Is not the human habitat the most in need of making whole; of being doctored to, as Ian McHarg may imagine it? Is not an interpreter and designer of habitat a physician before all else - an agent of biotic repair? When does one cross the line and become shaman, acknowledging that every human inhabits a world of subjective abstractions, symbolism and interpretations, as much as it does the material world? Who will walk with the subject into the intangible and physical milieux from which arise habitat, remain engaged yet objective enough to guide the outcome toward health (the condition of wholeness), and witness the unfolding transformation? Does the work of Alexander provide the correct principles for what makes a human habitat whole; for what is objectively 'better' and can we guide the humans and their processes toward these principles?
Most importantly, are you a furry? Feathers are acceptable too.... Scales maybe.
And really... here's a towel. Well, it was Noddy's diaper, but I'm sure he doesn't mind.

Honesty and dishonesty are equal possibilities here.

Will you marry me?
I've actually never heard of the guy.
Fuck, another parallel...
Most importantly, are you a furry? Feathers are acceptable too.... Scales maybe.
I... can be

I'm honored.

What is the role of shaman? Simple awareness? Is there a line?

"Hold your breath and take the plunge."

Well, let's see. Marriage as a binding legal contract is pointless unless it somehow furthers the objective of world domination and total mind control of the asses - I mean masses!
However, marriage as a social gesture acknowledging and celebrating mating kinship between two or more people - including fictional characters, inflatable dolls, animals, trees and Noddy - sounds enticing. Just let me consult with my 16 other wives.
When is a shaman? Is there a line? I ponder stuff like this daily. I still have no answer. However, I suspect the majority of people in 'developed' cities aren't ready (or permitted?) to view their relationship with their environment in anything but the most shallow of terms; perhaps as the management of a series of contingent or disconnected objects external to and independent of the self, yet somehow representative of the status of that self: at worst problematic, unruly and indicative of some type of 'failure', or at best arranged as a sort of prideful identity success meter, the way we arrange clothing to represent and obscure ourselves.
I think the current managerialist obssession with place-making as competitive marketing, promotion and lifestyle attraction typifies this. (Based from reading and from insights into local and state governance structures in Australia.)
Maybe a shaman's role is as simple as giving permission for another to enter instead into subjective relationship with the world around them, and experience the implicate being of multiple material forms. Deep ecology would suggest this is not only possible but necessary. However, it is hardly a matter for decision-makers to regulate. It is something of an individual adventure, to be discovered as often as a person enters a co-creative mindset with the materials and processes he inhabits.
I hope you enjoy reading up on Christopher Alexander. Notes on the Genesis of Wholes provides a good overview. Also, you might like to find A City is not a Tree. It is still one of the most important papers ever published, when it comes to our mathematical understanding of the necessary patterns for life....
I've been meaning to talk to you about this. @Architect you might also be able to help.
Actually, you will be more help
I've tried to download/ use NetLogo, but to no avail. After a seemingly successful download, I try to open it, and I get:
The JVM found at Cetc. etc.)NetLogo 5.0.3\jre is damaged.
Please reinstall or define EXE4J_JAVA_HOME
to point to an installed 32-bit JDK or JRE
*hits ok*
The JVM could not be started. The maximum heap size (-Xmx) might be too large or an antivirus or firewall tool could block the execution.
I've tried reinstalling, but it did not work. I've disabling the antivirus, and again, that did not work. I don't know what to do, and what does this mean?

I can work with that(/those/them).

...Would you consider a request to split the applicable components herein into a new thread in Philosophy & Faith entitled "The Role of Shaman"?

The kitteh! Not the kitteh! Anything but the kitteh! But it's been so long since I derailed a thread...! It feels sooo good!
It worked
I'll see what I can muster tomorrow. Of course, if boards are now split, and anyone crazy enough wants to discuss this, it means we can kick out BAP when he doesn't understand the topic and demands we justify our premises
Oohh... I think Greyface lives on in the Bureaucratic Borg! I saw him today... peering in the window of my soul
Well, Kimba is waiting for me! He gets so pesky and paws the carpet when it's time for ear scritches and tummy rubs.
