We had this thread on ENTP.org.
We had too small a number of “I”s to come to a conclusion, but there are plenty here, so this might prove interesting.
What if … “I”s tend to be nearsighted and “E”s tend to be farsighted?
Simply put, is there a correlation between the ability to see at an early age, and type?
Let's say a young child is nearsighted. No one knows and to him, the world is as far as he can see. He looks inward. He becomes an “I”.
I'm an “E”. I had 'fighter pilot' eyes, and now need reading glasses – I am far sighted now.
A good friend is INTP and is nearsighted.
In our small sampling, there was a strong correlation. The “E”s were almost all 20/20 to far sighted, the “I”s tended strongly to being nearsighted.
Are you “E” or “I” and do you trend farsighted or nearsighted?

"I" Got glasses for reading the chalkboard when I was 15 so nearsighted. I need bifocals now (don't have them yet) for reading smaller print. I used to be able to read the tiniest words on any label. Now I struggle to read the ingredients.

Sorry but I think it's a silly theory. Anecdotal but all the kids in my family are nearsighted due to a hereditary elongated eye socket. Half are extraverts and half introverts.

I don't think there is any backing to that theory at all...

I am farsighted and intoverted.

INTP, born nearsighted. (glasses[hated], contacts[hated less, still hated using a crutch though]).

Thankful, my eyes had a brief but magical relationship with some lasers, and now the world is all the better. :borg:

I am blind as a bat on both counts, but I like my glasses and take them as a point of style.

There are always anomalies, but you are on the opposite side of my stated theory.
When you were young, do you remember having trouble seeing things without glasses?
The theory might be revised to include all vision problems that limit seeing when people are young and before somebody realizes they need glasses.
(Or it may not stand up at all)

I'm introverted and have 20\20 vision, I remember always being able to see well. My first eye examination was at 5. Interesting theory though

Yes you're probably like me. I don't know how old you are, but at about 40, you might need glasses to read without eye strain.
There seems to be a slight corrolation so far, but I don't know the normal distribution between near and far. Could be we are looking at a normal cross section.

So, you're nearsighted and introverted. :)

And as is my ISTP brother, as are my two extraverted sisters. My ESXX sisters are more nearsighted then I am actually, so what is your point?

Actually, I wasn't making a point, I was discussing a possibility.
Your input is appreciated.
On the org, we had a high correlation, but a small sample, so it was interesting but useless.
It is appearing to be busted, but we'll see if others check in. :)

I'm introverted and (I can never get this right) I think I'm nearsighted. At least I am if that means that I can't see far away w/o glasses.

Introverted and neither, no glasses.

I find it odd that you would speculate on a connection between sight and extra/intro-version rather than sensing/intuition(perception). I don't see what extraversion/introversion have to do with nearsightedness/farsightedness.

correction - it was blatantly obvious that your theory was BUSTED back on the .org, but you had a few examples to back your theory so you remained unconvinced.

Last check, they said one eye was nearsighted and one far sighted. If it didn't cause headache I didn't need glasses. But I do see much clearer with glasses. I use them when driving, to spot animals quicker. Otherwise I find them to be a nuisance. I'm more likely to bring binoculars and/or camera. I'm not sure if I am introverted or extroverted, maybe a bit of both.

I like the theory. I find it plausible. My opinion is that environment is of substantial influence, and eyes are important sensors. So introversion could make one nearsighted, or nearsightedness make one introverted. Lack of sensory input could make one live more in ones own head. There is probably research on what happens if one is locked in a room for a prolonged period, how one is influenced and if the effects would be lasting.

In this theory, a blind man might be an introvert because he can't see anything except the pictures in his head.
There is no correlation, here, so it appears to be a blind (if you'll pardon the expression) alley.

Actually, there was a very high correlation going until that "Scummy" person shook us back to reality.
Just thought I'd try it out in an introvert rich environment.
Scummy was, as usual, right.

I'm an interested case. I would think there could be a slight correlation. I once had a conversation with my optomotrist. I told her there was not much need to firm up my distance viewing as as an introvert I had little need to see way out there.

I am or rather was nearsighted. Got glasses in college because the blackboard got blurry.

Got a cataract operation in both eyes. New lenses. Now I see 15/20 in my left eye (great) and computer distance in my right. I can go with or without glasses but prefer binocular vision with glasses.

too simple a theory to account for MTBI which is fundamental shaping of brain growth.
