Wait, what?

Are we talking naturey peeps or scientists or hippies?

And who isn't dogmatic?

I'm a (drunk) naturalist according to my own definition, but I do hate me some hippies. :storks:

*EDIT

If we're talking natural sciences, then why not just apply it to all science, which would be correct, imho.

are you talking about the belief that that optimal environmental condition for human prosperity would somehow be guaranteed without our own intervention?

of course no one says that straight, because it's dumb. just like most religious people don't explicitly state what it is they believe. but there are a lot of people like that. or rather, it's a prominent idea throughout humanity. an example of regulation by fear and guilt.

No, no. Women with hairy armpits. They WILL NOT shave those bird's nests no matter how nicely you ask. It's not even open for discussion. Pure. Dogmatism.

Maybe if you try to trade in one shaved leg for her two arm pits. Add some wink winks and I'm sure she'll shave off them bushes in no time.

Wait. Am I shaving my leg or is she shaving hers? Or is she forgoing shaving one leg to recoup the time it will take to shave the pits?

Ugh. This all seems very complicated.

Maybe I'll just poise a bucket of hair removal cream above the door.

Hey Scorned, cool avatar.

And yes the perception of "untouched nature" being this perfect state of homeostasis is ironically completely unnatural, rather as I see it there's nothing unnatural about a city, artful architecture celebrates the artifices of which our reality is derived.

PS:
  • Naturalist, a term for a person involved in the study of life forms, or "Natural history"
  • Methodological naturalism, naturalism that holds that science is to be done without reference to supernatural causes; also refers to a methodological assumption in the philosophy of religion that observable events are fully explainable by natural causes without reference to the supernatural
  • Metaphysical naturalism, a form of naturalism that holds that the cosmos consists only of objects studied by the natural sciences, and does not include any immaterial or intentional realities
  • Ethical naturalism, the theory that ethical terms can be defined in non-ethical terms, namely, descriptive terms mainly from the natural sciences
  • Spiritual naturalism, an approach to spirituality that is devoid of supernaturalism
  • Religious naturalism, religious, institutions, rituals, doctrines and communities which do not include supernatural beliefs
  • Humanistic naturalism emphasises scientific reasoning as a basis for humane behavior
  • Sociological naturalism is the view that the natural world and the social world are roughly identical and governed by similar principles
  • Political naturalism is a politic and legal system based on the belief in the existence of a fair natural law
  • Naturalistic observation is an empirical method of study by which the researcher introduces no outside stimulus, instead witnessing behavior as it naturally occurs in the environment

...now continue, good people.

so, what would you call the stance i and cognisant described?

how is any of the naturalisms you list dogmatic?

and most importantly: how do we continue? what comes after the oh-so-conclusive wikipedia?

Thanks for providing the OP with an inspiration to make up his mind about what the bejesus we are supposed to babble around in here.

May i add the literary movement.

Alternatively we could discuss naturism.

I haven't made up my mind. You are free to interpret this as you will. Hell, I could be meaning shaved vs unshaved genitalia. Maybe the sciences. Maybe hippies.

I'll have to reply later. I'm at work.

P.S Cheers Cog. I stumbled across the avie and thought 'MINE!'. :D
