This is the first time I've ever officially introduced myself on a forum.

I'm here because basically I had no idea about MBTI personality types until a short time ago. I thought no one would ever really understand me. But then I found out I was an INTP, and along with it a little essay about the INTP personality: It described me down to the very last detail. The feeling it gave me was... relief I guess - to know that I wouldn't be leaving this world misunderstood.

It was the first time I felt truly at peace in recent memory.

It's pretty amazing. Most of us think our minds are so complex, but we can be grouped into 16 very accurate personality types. We really are just another animal.

About me: I finished high school and had no idea what I wanted to do. I used to watch a lot of Hong Kong action movies, so I wanted to learn Cantonese. My school only offered Mandarin. I heard it was "the most difficult language", which I thought must be a lie and had to find out for myself. Studied Mandarin in high school, and went to China for a couple of months. Just mucking around really.

Back in Australia I had no idea what I wanted to do. The next logical step was uni. I did a Bachelor of Arts for a year - well I ended up just going to Chinese classes and nothing else. Eventually I didn't go to any.

The next year I decided to relocate and try a different uni. I ended up getting a double degree in International Business and Asian Studies. I hate business. I only did it to study languages - I didn't want to do a useless linguistics degree.
I also studied in Taiwan for a year. That took about 6 years.

I was studying Japanese in my spare time for a while, but at the moment I'm at a point where languages are no longer challenging, so I stopped trying. If I'm in the country I'll learn, but it's just boring and pointless studying in Australia.

For part time work I've just done sales and worked as a kitchen hand. They were both too stressful for me. Working in the kitchen was ok I guess. But one of that is enough.

At the moment I'm unemployed trying to figure out what I want to do next. Basically I want to a very INTP job: write screenplays, web design, would love to go back to uni for a science degree. But I don't have the skills to start any of these yet.

So now I have no idea what to do for unskilled work.... hmmm. I wouldn't mind working in a book store or library.

I love sci fi, science, and all sorts of things that other INTPs like.

I heard that INTPs "struggle with the meaningless of existence". That's definitely me. Most of my thoughts are consumed by death, the future of the human race, methods for maintaining our environment for as long as possible until we can get off this rock and that kind of thing.

I don't expect anyone has read this far, but at least I have some things sorted out in my own head.

Hello, welcome, all that stuff.

We have plenty of people here who know exactly what you're talking about. Most (all?) of us have felt that same frustration at not being understood, some more frequently and/or more intensely than others. There's even a thread about suicide in the Psychology section.

I find that the question "What have you been thinking about lately?" often turns up good/interesting/weird answers here. So, what about it?

OK, it's crazy, but I'll say it. Something about you seems suspicious. Not in a bad way, really, I just feel like there's something you're not telling us. I think it has something to do with the vagueness of the sentence "I love sci fi, science, and all sorts of things that other INTPs like."

Moreover, I think it may be related to the thing that I haven't said yet. There was a thread in the Lounge in which I posted something about that, and I ended up derailing the thread so thoroughly that I'm embarrassed about it. It has something to do with your avatar...

I'm probably just being paranoid and reading way too much into this. This has just been bothering me since I read your introduction, so I decided to ask about it. So tell me, am I right, or am I just being totally crazy and paranoid?

(Man, that was a weird post. Glad that's over with.)

Wha- Wha- What?!?!?!

I have no idea what you're talking about. But I'm intrigued. What do you mean exactly? What do you have to be paranoid about? I don't really get what you mean. That I'm some non-INTP pretending to be an INTP in order to infiltrate your forums?

What's "the thing you haven't said yet?"

And yes, there's lots I'm not telling you. I'm usually very vague and secretive.

"I love sci fi, science, and all sorts of things that other INTPs like." What I was thinking when I wrote this was that I don't want to bore you with an exhaustive list of things you already know.

My avatar is a shiba-ken. That's the kind of dog I want to get. It's one of 6 legendary dogs of Japan. Shiba's are very INTP-like I guess. They're very intelligent, small but loyal and brave. And they pretty much do their own thing. They usually only listen to their owner, and show affection to them. Other people they'll just ignore. If you try to give them instructions they'll only do it if they can see the logic in the exercise, otherwise they'll do their own thing.

Oh yeah, and thanks for the welcomes!

::Proceeds to read all your posts to find out wtf you're talking about:: :D

When I said "paranoid", I was referring to the fact that I was getting all hyped up about the possibility that you were hiding something when I knew you probably weren't.

No, I do not suspect you of being a non-INTP. I suspect(ed? I dunno) you of keeping something interesting from us.

"I love sci fi, science, and all sorts of things that other INTPs like." What I was thinking when I wrote this was that I don't want to bore you with an exhaustive list of things you already know.

Yeah, I guessed that (I've done things like that myself before), I just wanted to make sure.

No need to do that. The thread is in the Lounge, closer to the top than the bottom. After a few pages, I unintentionally took over the thread with a guessing game. It shouldn't be too hard to find.

I think it probably was your avatar that made me suspicious that you would be able to guess it.

Two Tasmanians on the same INTP forum? What are the odds of that?

Welcome. Fine name you've chosen.

At least I feel it is a familiar sensation to feel like a ghost among the crowds. But maybe you have chosen the moniker for completely different reasons.

You got it in one. I like the feeling of swimming anonymously through a sea of people.

That's surprising. I mean, we are INTPs here after all.

Welcome. Best of luck sorting things out, it can be a pain in the rear.

I look forward to seeing more of your posts, I have a feeling you have a lot to say.

Sorry for almost hijacking your intro thread for my own purposes. I've been in a weird mood lately, and I didn't actually mean to do that.

Anyway, yes, nice to have you.

Is there a reason why you haven't been posting very often lately?

I do not like this paragraph. And it's not that I'm taking offense at being called 'just another animal', but rather offense at the oversimplification of humans.

The MBTI is merely able to identify common traits exhibited to varying degrees by certain members of the population; we still are at an utter loss to explain why people are that way, and it must be realized that not all INTP's are completely INTP (same is true for every type). We're all just mixes between the various types, some more purely one type than others.

(Please keep in mind I am not at all emotional as I say this, just sincerely disagreeing. Welcome to the forum. ;)

After hearing your description of that dog, I felt inclined to get one also... I'll be able to trace that desire to your post many years from now when I do eventually get one, I'm sure. (My life is a bit turbulent to get one now, and with a title as a 'legendary' dog, I don't imagine they can be had cheeaply).

Oh, and I, like the majority of people here, did not consider your post very long at all, and read it in its entirety. Just to help you get a feel for the place.

Would writing business systems that are designed to make money from nothing appeal? or Writing speeches for an ENTP Politician appeal?

Because I can hire you on a wage of nothing...
