Multiple Songs at Once

Guest
I've had an old computer for many years...but I just got a new one. One fun thing about it is that it can play seemingly infinitely many songs at once. Does anyone else enjoy playing between 2 and 12 songs at once and listening to them all blended together?

Anyone else do this? Why? What song combinations do you do?

It is fun to me because you can create something new out of many already existing things. Listening to one song at once sometimes is boring to me (if I'm trying to use music to make one part of my brain shut up so I can focus)...so the multi-song thing can be useful as well as fun.

However, I know not all feel this way. My sister, for example, informed me that it made her feel nauseous and confused.

I wonder why the differences? She is a good musician...while I am merely an appreciator of music. I wonder if that has to do with it. Maybe she has a better ear for picking apart the individual songs and therefore is like a cat looking at a TV screen (they see all the little pixels individually because their eyes are great, but cannot appreciate the big picture).

I can't actually listen to two songs at once. I can, however, leave two songs playing and easily switch my attention between the two, provided they're at similar volumes (how unique of me!). Also, I have left my metronome on for an hour before I realized it. I turned it off more to save the batteries, but it didn't bother me much.

I think the fun is in making playlists where songs melt perfectly into each other.

None of the songs i could play at once would have decent synergy. Although i have played 2 Chopin songs at once, that was interesting.

It's fun to play one song on an instrument while singing a completely different one. :)

Haha, Yeah I call it "clashing songs". I use virtualDJ and just mix them, except since I'm just letting them play simultaneously and not doing much mixing I call it a clash. I do try to sync and equalize them though. Once I've recorded the clash of two songs, I'll save that mp3, load it to one table and try to mix in a 3rd, 4th etc...

what do you listen to?

I develop anxiety when I listen to two songs together that have beats that don't line up. And then if they do, if the songs are in different keys it's like nails on a chalk board to me... It's probably because I make music and therefore have a desire to fix anything in music that doesn't appear right.

So you should be good at putting two songs together, equalizing pitch etc..
