Where do you live?
The default is generally seen as one being either a morning person or not a morning person, with the implication being that to be a morning person is at the expense of being a night person and vice versa, and not at the expense of being an evening person.

I just realized that my favorite parts of earth's rotation is the morning and the night. If I don't experience these, I feel like I am missing out on something. Something feels awry. I don't really mind sleeping away the evening at all... but the other two thirds seem automatically to me as personally psychologically very fruitful in some view/feeling/sense I have not yet dissected.

I am curious about what the distribution is on this forum.

When in doubt about which two you like the most, think about which you care the least about experiencing as an awake person. Control for things like work schedule, etc. Concrete other concerns do not matter when you answer, what you answer is about what feels like it is ideal for you individually.

holy shit I am writing like a Si user it's happening

Late evening through the early morning, especially when its windy or rainy. It's dark, quiet, still, and empty, which makes for an eerie/mystical atmosphere. I get the feeling that I might like to work at an airport for similar reasons.

But if there is a cure for depression it's definitely sunlight.

I'm most active at dawn and early morning. I'm most sluggish when it's late at night or under the blistering heat of the midday sun.

I dislike mornings often because waking up reminds me I'm still alive. The beauty of the morning light is hollow and alien. It gets better as the evening approaches. The dusk is soothing. I sit quietly and let the light fade without adding artificial light. When I go to bed, it's with some relief; there is nothing expected of me from the outside world...just the cat crawling up under my chin, softly purring and oblivious to the endless churning of my mind.

Evenings and nights are when my brain is most active, but I do sometimes have a splendid morning if I did not sleep.

This one. It's 5:45 AM right now as I write this.

When I was a teenager I was more of a 'night' person but now that I am grown I don't have much need to sleep in anymore and even on a weekend or day off I'd prefer to just get up than spend another hour in bed. Usually I'm out of bed and showered before 7 AM on a day off.

I got into the early shower routine because I'm prone to spending the entire day in front of the computer without even eating so I decided to incorporate an early shower before I even sit down at my desk.

However, no matter whether I have the day off, or I work, or whatever, it's very rare for me to stay up past midnight; usually I am asleep before 10 PM, pretty much every day.

The midday heat makes me extremely sluggish at times. Work involves labor in the sun with a heavy tool belt strapped to my waist and I sometimes feel like I could literally fall asleep while standing/walking.

Morning:
It is so peaceful during this time period. Nothing special about it other than how the sun's beautiful sunrise gently glistens the dew present on plant-life.

Night:

This is suppose to be a secret but, I'll let the INTP Forum in on it. I'm deeply fascinated with the atmosphere created by the city lights and street lights at night. There is an allure that I have never been able to explain. Look at it. You'll get the pattern but there is nothing like seeing it in real life. I get so lost in these illuminations sometimes.

^ I don't think I've gone to bed before 10am in years. :D Even if I have to be up in the morning for work, I find I inevitably get a burst of energy in the evening that carries through to about 12-2am, so I just go on 5-6 hours sleep and sleep in at weekends.

Unsure if it's a natural preference for that time of day, so much as it's the time that's most quiet when I can be left to myself.

I can't imagine what it's like to be a morning person. To me it would require self discipline to be a morning person. It would mean that I had to go to bed in the middle of something interesting at night, or it would mean that I would have to wake up in the middle of a good sleep in the morning. Something I do only because I have a job to do.

I would like sometimes to be more of a morning person though for practical reasons.

I've never really noticed any strong preference.

It is usually more practical to be awake during the day as people sometimes come for surprise visits, or someone needs to talk to you on the phone. Being asleep at such hours can thus be a bit awkward when the car is outside and it's obvious that I am home but not replying to the doorbell.

Being outside during the night does seem a bit more unsafe due to lack of other people keeping creeps in check. Also, all the stores are closed.
Generally I enjoy the nighttime atmosphere.

But I also like being outside during the day listening to birds, water and wind.

Mornings can have a nice atmosphere which I think is somewhat because of nostalgia and associations to mornings in my past. Everything is quiet, you have your first sip of coffee, relaxing.

And evenings sitting outside playing cards or drinking beer or both.

I think after a while it just becomes less stressful to awake somewhat early than late. It's also easier to maintain a routine with cleaning the house etc because you are following a mindset you've had for 10 years+.

My productivity seems to mainly go with how mentally prepared I am to do something or how much an undone task bothers me. Though, sometimes it takes a 1-2 hours of working before I actually go into efficiency mode.

I'd say I'm naturally an evening/late night person. My mind is most active after 15:00. I'm pretty sluggish right now as I type, as 09:00 is too early for anything but muddled thoughts. I'm usually good for a nap, if I can get my mind to settle, around two in the afternoon, but since that is when I have to go to work I drink some coffee and suppress my need for a nap. Fucking work.

Sometimes I fall asleep around 21:00 on my nights off and wake up before the sun comes up. While I can't do any outstanding thinking, I love how quiet and peaceful my environment is. I just sip some coffee and let my mind wander. Bliss before the sun, and my kids, rise.

The only reason im up early in the morning is because I havent gone to sleep yet. Im definitely a night person, I usually like staying up as late as my body will allow me, im usually on the computer at night. If I have work the next day I go to bed earlier, which is only 3 days a week. I also like to take a 1-2 hour nap at some point in the evening.

I can do decent work from about 9-11am EST, but in general my best times are from about 8pm-2am. Afternoons pretty much suck as far as thinking goes, although I can do physical stuff fine.

The only real benefit of being a morning person is that I could go into work earlier and then leave earlier in the afternoon... but that ain't been happening now for some time. Just... meh.

I'm capable of enjoying a beautiful sunny day, but the world really seems to come alive for me near sunset and then into dusk.

I'm definitely not a morning person, but the aesthetics of morning is the atmosphere I find most pleasant. Midday and evening just seem like burning work hours and are kind of abrasive on me for reasons I have yet to find words for. Night is when I am most awake while simultaneously relaxed, probably because I know I'm going to be allowed to escape to my room and not have to deal with people.

omg, we are so similar. If we both liked interacting with people (each other), we would probably be soul friends.

But we don't, so stay away from me and my things )=<

I don't understand the poll.

There are 24h a day and humans typically require about 8h of sleep, so that's approximately one third of the day spent sleeping and two thirds awake.

In addition, we have a tendency towards sleeping at approximately the same time every day.

So what he's done is cut a day into three segments (morning (4AM-noon), evening (noon-8PM), night(8PM-4AM)) of approximately 8h each. Presumably you will be awake for two of them, on average.

Which two?

I sleep best from around five in the morning until noon. During midday I am not overly productive, but it depends on my current environment. I feel overloaded, especially in crowded areas, by distractions and I find the people around me are more wired and stressed while in business/ work mode. At night, people are less active, and in the dark and relative quiet of the night, my senses are less taxed. I feel most lucid after it's dark out.

Unfortunately i work fairly regular office hours, so my sleep schedule is always fucked up.

Thanks for explaining. I chose the first. I have a normal sleep pattern. I wake up somewhere in the morning. I don't work, so I can sleep late. I do my stuff into the evening, go to be well before midnight. I may read. But lights usually off before midnight.

I think it's an old avatar of ESC as well I believe it's a Scarlett Johansson, from the movie Lost in Translation.

That said, I never clicked the link or heard the song or anything (as I'm not sure people in my vicinity are morning people like I am).

It's from the music video of "City Girl" which is off Lost In Translation's soundtrack. I don't remember if the scene is in the actual movie.

But yeah in its own way I think Lost In Translation captures the feeling of being a night person.

I am not allowed to make life changing decisions after 7pm. I'm cynical, easily overwhelmed, and generally more misanthropic in the evening.

In the early morning, when left alone, I am cheerful and lighthearted. If people interrupt my early morning routine though I become grumpy and misanthropic again. 2 hours alone to drink my tea and fry an egg. Two hours to sit on my porch and read. After that I am fit for public interaction.

I guess I need a couple of hours alone in my head before I am prepared to put up with other people. By the end of the day my social meter has run out again.

Night is one of the few things I really like. Most people are asleep and not bothering me with their stuff. Besides I get to watch a lot of anime without anyone interrupting me :)
