Father:ISTJ
Mother: ENFx
Me (older):INTP
Brother (3 years younger): INFP

As for my grandparents, an here I come to the land of pure speculation:

My father´s (ISTJ) family:
My dad´s mother: INTJ
My dad´s father: ISTP
My uncle (3 years younger than dad): INTJ (very weak guess here)

My mother´s (ENFx) family:
My mum´s mother: ESFJ
My mum´s father: INFP
My mum´s half-brothers (different father): INFJ and ISFJ

So I guess that at least as for my family it more or less works as a combination. But I don´t think that, apart for the IxE part it is all genetic, and I would assume a lot of MBTI has got to do with nurture too.

Parent and Child MBTI Connections?

Is there any known correlation between parental MBTI types and the MBTI produced in their children? For instance INTP + INTJ = ENTx? (Natural resistance to parental introversion, but retains critical thinking qualities. This is a theoretical outcome but you get the point.) Or do some parental types prevent or encourage certain outcomes, not necessarily form them though?

I enjoy analyzing patterns in a lot of things. Thoughts/answers?

Re: Parent and Child MBTI Connections?

I know there are a couple threads on the same topic floating around somewhere, but I don't want to search them out.

Anyway:
Me - ENTP
Mother - ISFP
Father - ISTP
Sister - ISFP
Brother - ENTP

I don't think there is a formula for the likely progeny like there is in blood type and eye colour. LOL, I wonder what would be recessive if it was?

Besides, if it was that simple, who would siblings be often wildly different?

My mother's side and dad's side is pretty different:

Mother: ENTP (according to "real" MBTI test), Maternal Grandfather: ENTP (don't remember him. Irish and used to drink; I don't know if that affects personality), Maternal Grandmother: INFJ (died before I was born), Maternal Uncles: INTP (possibly, don't know particularly well) and ENTP Maternal Cousins: INFP and INFJ (don't really know them)

Father: ISFJ (I say "F" because of his quick temper, but possibly "T"), Paternal, Grandfather: ISTJ (WWII veteran), Paternal Grandmother: ESFP (socialiser), Paternal Uncles: ISTP (car lover)and INTP (messy), Paternal Female Cousins: ISTP and INTJ, Paternal Male Cousins: All 3 are ISTP (Sport lovers;)

Me: INTP, Brother: INTJ (with poorly developed "N" due to age)

I mostly get along with my female paternal cousins and all my uncles I'd like to get in touch with my maternal cousins. My brother gets along mostly with my male paternal cousins.

As you can see, My Dad's family is mostly SP/SJ and my Mum's family is mostly NT/NF, but my brother and I are both NT. Interesting.

I think families tend to share at least 2 or more functions between any parent/child
