I live in a nanny state called Queensland, I only just made that connection and it amuses me to no end, anyway the nanny state has nothing to do with gender politics and everything with conservatives eroding our freedoms, most female politicians are actually in the opposition. Would they be better? I dunno.

From my perspective maternal instincts don't translate into written policy, rather women are more willing to compromise than men who take the simpler more authoritarian option and just ban whatever appears to be causing the issue.
The "nanny" state is a misnomer, it's the overbearing authoritarian father state.
there are fundamental differences between males and females due to both cultural factors and biological imperatives. these affect personality and behaviour and political choices which in turn influence social policy, with females tending towards the political left
like the oedipal mother, the socialist state seeks to engineer its populace (infant) into a state of permanent helplessness and dependence in order to justify its own existence. that is the worst potential extreme of "matriarchy" imo
