I live in a nanny state called Queensland, I only just made that connection and it amuses me to no end, anyway the nanny state has nothing to do with gender politics and everything with conservatives eroding our freedoms, most female politicians are actually in the opposition. Would they be better? I dunno.

the instinct to nanny is a more maternal one (on average) and so would be more likely to manifest in a matriarchy than in a patriarchy. mothers must be attuned to the unsophisticated and pre-rational emotions of their infants, placate their tantrums and provide everything they need whilst controlling their environment as much as possible to ensure their survival. the paternal side of this coin is to assist the growing child in the transition into rationality, self-reliance and personal responsibility; the values of classical liberalism which are the bedrock of the evil western patriarchies

From my perspective maternal instincts don't translate into written policy, rather women are more willing to compromise than men who take the simpler more authoritarian option and just ban whatever appears to be causing the issue.

The "nanny" state is a misnomer, it's the overbearing authoritarian father state.
