right now (or a few seconds ago when i was looking) it said 15 members online and 50 guests. other times i've checked, the member to guest ratio has always been that disproportionate as well. does this forum really have that many lurkers? are all of them INTP's that are just too "I" to register? lol

haha well I'm sure I register as a guest a lot of the time. I'm around a computer like 40% of the day... and it was closer to 95% over the summer. Unless there's something to post though I'm not usually logged in, just out of habit of logging off every time I'm done with something. I don't know how many other people are the same, though.

Well it seems that some of you have already hinted at the content of this post.

I'm not sure how accurate this is but I wanna say the vast majority of INTPs often find themselves in existential funks from time to time, yes? For large portions of their lives perhaps. So if the lurkers are in fact INTPs, and if their reasoning for their abstinence from posting is something along the lines of, "What's the point?" or "Who cares?" or "It doesn't matter," it shouldn't be surprising that such a great number of lurkers exist.

I was being too flippant. My own life has been an almost unmitigated funk. (And yes, states of mind/perspectives do change, so I wouldn't necessarily say the same thing if asked tomorrow, or ten years from now.)

I don't pretend to my children that I'm happy. Children clearly see through emotional deception. If I don't mismatch words and actions now, they perhaps have a chance of escaping the legacy imposed upon me.

I spent the last year feeling depressed cos of lots of things going on. I found it did a number of things - my daughter tended to let out bouts of contemptuousness about how I was living my life; it drove them away from me - they didn't want to know especially because they couldn't do anything about it. I suspect they 'knew' (unconsciously, tacitly) that if they got too close to me it could be catching. Since I've sorted a few things out I've become much happier and my relationships with them have transformed. They talk to me more - offering up their news etc; we laugh together and are more matey. I can talk to them more and they will listen.

I sort of resolved that if I became unhappy like that again, I would try to control it more - you know cognitive behavioural stuff, meditation. I don't know, but one of the reasons I came to faith is because I think its really important for kids to have some kind of meaning - before they get swamped by the nihilism of the world. I think nihilism has lots of negative implications that affect our lives and we don't really undersand half of them.
