I've changed the thread title to better reflect the situation and make distinguishing between these types of threads easier.
Then we don't have a problem.

As I've said before, making vague threads like this isn't helpful and should probably be left to the staff, although nobody seems to listen, and then afterwards we have to merge threads and clean stuff up. So, if you insist on making these kinds of threads the least you can do is create a more pertinent and descriptive title.
Tsk! Tsk! Hereafter you mean when a problem that addresses all of us and we want to fix it, all we have to do is ensure we are not vague about issues should a new thread be created. We should be aware of what the staff has said in the past even if unaware or the issues were different. We should not trouble the staff to have to merge threads. Better yet, scan the home page for a pertinent thread already in existence.

With that little rant out of the way - Ragnar has been contacted via email since the outrag...err outage started, but he is notoriously bad at checking email, by his admission.
Send him an email or text message to check his email.

Oh rant? When an INTP rants, isn't that bad or at least questionable Fe? When a non-INTP rants, we should be aware rants can be normal and should:

A. Take them seriously.
B. Ignore them because they are rants.
C. Staff rants are okay and routine.
D. Staff are equal to ordinary members only more equal.
E. Some staff are more equal than other staff.
F. Listen to staff as they know what to do.
G. Staff are mostly human and have as much right to complain as you do.
H. Respect all staff even when they stray as they work hard.
I. All of the above.
J. None of the above.
K. All of the below.
L. Selections of the above to be made by staff.
M. Selections of the above to be observed by members.
N. Selections of the above to be made by all.
O. Peter Piper should not have picked a peck of pickled peppers.
P. If you picked O, you are not paying attention.
Q. You should pay attention.

When we get a hold of him, we'll see and discuss about the financial matters, although in the past his attitude was that he did not want to take donations.
Donations or any other support we can offer.

You are obscuring the issue, BAP. When the site goes down, of course the mods will make a thread or write in an already existing one. They always do. But they have lives and you can't expect them to sit there refreshing the page every 2 minutes. If they fail to address the issue within a few days, then you can make a thread about it.

Minuend. The purpose of my post was primarily to respond to the personality (temperament?) of Fukyo. I find her interesting.

You don't seriously think posters after an outage of several days are going to wait "a few days" for mods, do you? They want to get their feelings out there.

See the post of Base groove below.

Sorry guys, it's my bad. I forgot to sacrifice another virgin again. I was kind of busy :D

Seriously though, I think the Elliot thread has something to do with the outage OR maybe this forum is getting famous.

Without statistics on our bandwidth usage, I don't know how we can determine how we ran out. We have no counter, its like driving a car with a broken gas gage. And what about all the images and videos we post? Does that exacerbate the problem? If there were at least a bandwidth usage indicator on the home page, then we can sort some things out. If the site goes down we will all know why. We are blind about how the whole thing works. And now there are suggestions on taking matters into our own hands. We feel more empowered if we pay for it ourselves than leave it to chance. I was wondering how this place was kept running being as I didn't see any advertisements, donations, or dues. I will feel like I have a right to complain if I pay dues and my service goes out, but have no recourse if it was free anyway.

RU saying it was YOU who deliberately set up and carried out the bandwidth excessive usage to trap people who make threads about it once it resumes?

Man, you have one job! How hard is it to tie one up and throw into a volcano once a month? Seriously...

That's secondary.

Anyone that has been here long and is observant would have noticed that outages have a pattern: they happen in synch with US school vacations, since american teenagers is likely the largest demographic of the users. There's always a spike of traffic in summer, and a lesser one in winter. This also coincides with an influx of new users, prolific in bad writing but of thankfully short life; most of them disappear in less than 2 weeks.

As predictable as the movement of the stars.

Near the end of every summer month I wonder if we'll be down for a few days and am usually pleasantly surprised that we are not.

Well, we have an excess of virgins, but it's finding the volcano that is always the hard part for me....:storks:

Re: Latest Forum Outage

Two, I'd recommend as part of this upgrading the software, similar to what INTPComplex has done. That will cost money I think, but we should have some money to afford it. But an upgraded server should support features we can give out on a paying basis.

Technically, we didn't "upgrade". We started out on the latest 4.x vBulletin and on a hosting setup specifically provisioned for future growth. When and where I can, I'm making sure we research and document every tweak/mod we make, in the event we'd ever want to go up to vB5 (which I severely doubt). But then, we're a tiny speck of a forum so far, so what they hell do I know.

I want to suggest this kind of online service: https://www.cloudflare.com/overview
to the forum admins to protect against host bandwidth abuse. Maybe the free plan is enough to start with. Maybe, someone know a similar service that do the job.
