The emergency brake on my car is not useless because it makes my wife feel more secure when parking it on a steep hill. I honestly don't know if putting the shift in "Park" does the trick or if it can fail.

No, a completely broken phonograph player is not useless as it allows you to dissect it so as to study it's constituting parts giving you, hopefully, insight into it's workings. If you already know how it works, you'll do the same thing, but upload it to youtube instead and explain it to the layman.

Drawers are most certainly not useless. I currently have mine wired up in such a way (with chargers, electronics for an internet connection, etc.) as to produce a perfectly normal-looking piece of furniture with headphones coming out of it. The headphones play internet radio music basically 24/7 (assuming the Wi-Fi works...).
(If I used the wrong definition of "drawers", then I blame the ambiguity of the English language and take no personal responsibility. )

It probably can't be taught too well on a personal basis (i.e. what the performance of the sense is literally like), but it can certainly be approached from other standpoints (technical, biological...)

I'll agree in regard to most painful memories, but remembering that I chose Funyuns over Doritos two years ago at a vending machine....

Reality TV generates a lot of income, but I agree personally because I've hardly ever watched it, and was embarrassed as a human when I have stumbled across it.

The food pyramid has been revised a few times, but it seemed to be an effort to help people eat more nutritionally.

Ticking of clocks.. initially the result of the mechanical action necessary for them to function. Not sure if more modern ones add it as an "sound effect" or not. I find it annoying also. I have a cuckoo clock that I disabled months ago because of it. I enjoy the whimsical nature of the bird, but the ticking was very loud.
