It's just a bunch of millenial women disgruntled trying to squeeze a little bit of extra magic out of their men for the sake of. In other instances of it, it might be self hate of the individual. It certainly doesn't help, more like deprive. It's supposed to make people "force" events into action, then if it doesn't happen, I guess they didn't really want it and everyone loses. It isn't that complex anymore. Say you're choosing a career. If you don't get the one you want then people guess you don't really want the other one and you're forced to do what someone else wants against your will, and there must be someone else out there who did everything you did up until the present point plus stuff people want you to do if you don't or haven't done it yet. You basically have to wish it into existence.
I think it's a gross misinterpretation of reality and points to something else, basically a game people are hiding to see if you can figure it out because if you can't you must be stupid and it could mean they're smarter. It's more cruel and self serving than anything, obviously. It's a nicer way of saying no, according to their preferences. Can't quite put your finger on it, but if it happens it happens. You're either on the bus or off the bus. It's clearly an illogical situation. It's just people hiding information as a game. In computer science you're supposed to give all information away. And you can tell someone's mental state by the fact they don't spell or grammar check their e-mails before they hit send.
