Is "You have to really want it" stupid?/How stupid is "you have to really want it"?

It's just a bunch of millenial women disgruntled trying to squeeze a little bit of extra magic out of their men for the sake of. In other instances of it, it might be self hate of the individual. It certainly doesn't help, more like deprive. It's supposed to make people "force" events into action, then if it doesn't happen, I guess they didn't really want it and everyone loses. It isn't that complex anymore. Say you're choosing a career. If you don't get the one you want then people guess you don't really want the other one and you're forced to do what someone else wants against your will, and there must be someone else out there who did everything you did up until the present point plus stuff people want you to do if you don't or haven't done it yet. You basically have to wish it into existence.

I think it's a gross misinterpretation of reality and points to something else, basically a game people are hiding to see if you can figure it out because if you can't you must be stupid and it could mean they're smarter. It's more cruel and self serving than anything, obviously. It's a nicer way of saying no, according to their preferences. Can't quite put your finger on it, but if it happens it happens. You're either on the bus or off the bus. It's clearly an illogical situation. It's just people hiding information as a game. In computer science you're supposed to give all information away. And you can tell someone's mental state by the fact they don't spell or grammar check their e-mails before they hit send.

Was it yesterday I warned you about the way you speak about women? Now you're referring to them as some sort of parasitic manipulator class.

Here's a two day feather-ban. Figure yourself out.

I really want to go back to school but I just can't. I am smart but there are things I just can't do which I want to do but it's not a matter of capability or motive. It's emotional problems, self-worth, feeling defeated. The tiny things make me give up, I feel stupid, don't know what to do. I don't feel like a strong person. This cripples me. Doing things by myself is too hard and no one is around to help. I just have to deal with it if I am going to find anything that makes me happy.

Not every swimmer will win the 1500m race in the 2020 Olympic Games, but that swimmer who does will not have been found wanting in willpower. To win the race will require willpower and an advantage over the competition conferred by factors outside one's control, both those which are already known and amenable to exploitation or mitigation and those which are yet to be revealed. Clausewitz's trinity of strategic planning- morale, materiel, and uncertainty- still holds good.

I think it would help to go into the specific aspects of the situation as such, without broad, unhelpful generalizations.

Tbf being angry towards a group of people because you had a bad breakup or rejection isn't really contributing much to anything, and it's more likely to attract polarizing viewing people and narrow the perspective people have of said group.

I understand your knee jerk reaction to it, but if you think about it, you kinda see how that type of hyperbole doesn't contribute to good discussion or thought

I think in many cases, the phrase holds true. But in some cases, it can be abused.

I attribute all the bad cases to millennial women.

Elliptoid was previously banned member bassgroove, back to try and cause trouble. Trying to abuse his position of a 'naive observer' to attack mods was a pretty low blow imo.

Serac just came off a ban and immediately started looking for trouble, so was banned again. At this rate he's not going to be a member of the forum much longer. We're getting tired of the dance.

I know what you mean about school for some people, they basically can't go back due to time or schedule because they have to make money - it's better to start off doing both work and school like "normal" people usually is my piece of advice, even though it can be hard or time consuming as a result, you getting what you pay for in essence. So it could be laziness or that.

I suppose you would need some kind of aid, not as a situation or result you were put in, or as a last resort. It would almost be a normal thing that would happen or a life routine. You don't need a "team" or anything like that, most people doing their jobs are happy to just supply the service, or help you then be out to live their own life i.e. deal with their own issues. In a capitalist society, it might be that way. No one has any hobbies or life purpose. There's no art, just consumptions and probably assumptions about different things when there's little or no discussion.

i think school runs parallel to the working world in its expectations. at work you have to meet arbitrary deadlines, produce content on demand that meets arbitrary expectations a lot of the time

only real difference is you get paid for it. education has been geared towards capital output rather than individual improvement and i guess what would be good is if there were more room for lateral thinkers who want to learn and maybe branch out to provide content or thought that doesn't necessarily fit into a career field

the reason you 'have to really want it' in modern education is because you need to jump through hoops to make a living off it.

This isn't about school and I never really said much about it at all. It's more about any goal in life, school being just one. Anything else is just some kind of "myth" or storytelling that people do to, somehow, tell you who you are, is what that is. Doesn't mean it's true whatsoever.
