Is/was anyone else reluctant to accept their type?

I am an INTP, or so I've been told. I've taken the test at least a dozen times now, and I have received the same result every time... However, no matter how many times I take it the little inconsistencies gnaw at me. For example, I hate mathematics, and love of math seems to be a theme in every description of the INTP type... I'm new to the forum, so sorry ahead of time if I did something wrong in this post or whatever...

When I read the standard INTP profiles, I couldn't find anything that didn't match me, so it was learning that I was not as unusual as I thought I was, and there are a lot of clones of me out there. You are not like that. You can maintain the belief in self-exceptionalism, at least for now. You hate math, but I predict that you love writing, which I believe is the other INTP talent.

Many INTPs here have stated that they don't like math, you're not the only one. It's apparently the tediousness.

Sorry if it was misleading, but math wasn't the only thing that doesn't fit. I was just worried about getting into "tl;dr" territory. It just makes me wonder how accurate could a test like that possibly be when so many things don't fit.

Same boat. Still bugging about INTP vs ISTP vs INFJ. Although Fe is completely invisible and I suck at body hand coordination.

But I get bored of things that I can't see practicality with. Like imaginary and complex numbers. I haven't studied Calculus yet. But when I get there maybe it would make sense. I hated math in class but when no one forces you, you kinda feel bad about sucking at it.

Yeah. Even though I'm like 99.9% sure now about what the types are (and what mine is), I'm still reluctant to state what I am or try to explain it to anyone because I know how easily people can misconstrue it into stereotyping people and themselves or to tell me I don't understand type just because it doesn't align exactly with how they see it.

And it's not like type can't/doesn't change; it can. But people do seem to have certain overarching patterns on how they interact with the world. Without bias, the only thing this overarching pattern of types teach me is how someone can come from a different philosophical point of view on something; and I can use that knowledge to compromise and get along, instead of agree to disagree with opposing viewpoints. I'm not sure agreeing to disagree ever really solves anything - it seems to always foster opposition. But I consider 'agreeing to disagree' to just mean willful ignorance of what others think (or how they see things) and nothing else.

First time reading MBTI was on some strange book I got from my ENFP cousin. I got INTJ but read the profiles and judged INTP afterwards. I didn't like some of the descriptions but then I kept reflecting on the topic afterwards. My old perspective was erroneous which means that my reluctancy was misdirected as well.

In regards to math, I think it all depends on what is meant by "Math." There's the definition that it is a "simplified language" and that definition falls under "subjectivity", "social construct" and "convention." Not my cup of tea. However, there is also the "objective" definition of it in that it is not math that "describes" reality but that math *is* the order of reality. It is with this definition where one can focus on the actual logical relationships involved, which is after the language is memorized.

I'm thinking ISTP. Ti-dom seems obvious and your philosophy towards information-consideration struck me as Ni-Se, but the steve jobs thread, in particular, showed a bit of a... 'jumpy' subjective perspective.

Yeah. I'm an INTP who relates to a lot of little things in the INTP descriptions, but definitely not the bigger things like main interests and empathy.

I'm quite artsy, loathe making math (although I can definitely see how it's important and how it can be fun to some, it's just not for me.) I don't consider myself very cold either. I quite enjoy talking about feelings, to understand them better. I've also recently tried becoming more impulsive in making appointments with people and starting conversations.

Basically, I wish I was an ENFP/ISFP I guess.

I was slightly emotionally charged.

But, yeah.. I am doubt stricken because of my Ne. Turns out, I could have one. I have noticed that when I am comfortable I enjoy hurling possibilities at government,social, and religious rules to explore and/or mock loopholes in their 'system'.

I just read 'Extraverted Sensing is operating when we freely follow exciting physical impulses or instincts as they come up and enjoy the thrill of action in the present moment' on multiple occasions I have let down on acting on impulse. Often causing some sort of regret.

I think I should stop invoking such arguments with myself. It just doesn't matter in the end. I am pretty Si too. Finding little details in every conversation to prove my case to myself.

I probably hold INTP but I am fairly unusually impulsive.

You are not the only one. Even now, I just sort of gave up and accepted that I am so weird hybrid between an ENTP and an INTP. Somehow, I get the weaknesses of an ENTP (liking to debate, must always be right, immature), and yet I have the strengths of an INTP such as always finding the best possible way to do something with as little work as possible.

Sadly, I do not have ENTP strengths (witty fast remarks, dozens of ideas at once), so I am left with being forced to slowly think my way to good conclusions. MBTI is not a perfect fit, just figure out where you stand and place yourself there. Once you have, you can categorize what you are and why.
