I don't know where to begin. I will use the template set by the sticky as a template.

What is your name?

I am Tristitian.

What's your gender?

Male

How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?

When I was taking an introductory psych course, I was introduced to the MBTI. I became absolutely obsessed with the whole study. I tested as an INTP, and have tested that way since.

Though I would consider myself an expert on the MBTI and typology, I have grown out of it on an intellectual level. It was a passion of youth - an infatuation with discovery and reason - that drove me to a near-obsession with the system. It is through reason, my studies of philosophy and psychology, and general maturation that I weaned myself off of believing the validity of the science behind the MBTI, cognitive functions, etc.

Now, you may ask, "Why are you here then?". Simply put, I'm here because I adore the INTP community (and, quite frankly, I couldn't find any similar intellectual forum on the internet that had an open-registration model). When I came across this forum recently and saw the topic categories I immediately fell in love. Psychology, philosophy, history, gaming - absolutely amazing.

I also believe that, while the MBTI is not based entirely upon a solid scientific foundation, it does bring similar people together.

Do you have a partner/lover?

No. I think it is for the best on an intellectual level, but on a personal level it is slowly eating away at whatever remnant of happiness I still have. Unless I am tricked by some foul temptress, however, Cynicism shall forever remain my one true love. Personally, I see love and libido as an impairment of my judgement and thought.

Take all this with a grain of salt, though. A cold, broken heart can lead to some harsh words, though I personally believe that I almost completely mean every single one of them.

On that note, thinking about bias - specifically my own - is one of my favourite pastimes. Doubting everything you think, everything you say, everything everyone else believes, unsure of your own beliefs at the same time, is a beautiful (yet somewhat maddening) thing.

Do you have any kids?

Hopefully not.

Studies?

I consider myself a psychologist. I am currently still in school, but I see my entire purpose in life being adding something of worth to the field. After I graduate, I plan on becoming a teacher. I don't particularly like most kids, but the intellectual and moral satisfaction (as well as the awesome people I meet along the way) more than make up for the few bad apples I will fail on my path. On some sense, even though kids who have strayed off the path of "worthiness" (for lack of a better term - and I did not mean it to sound that pretentious) makes me absolutely frustrated and disgusted, I am a deeply paternal and guiding person. Though they irritate me at times, I love helping children, and I absolutely adore young adults who are passionate about their studies.

On that note, the education system here is garbage. Absolute, utter shit. It has almost come to the point where teachers are mere figureheads espousing the disgusting teaching methods that have been decided upon by the state. Good teachers are often destroyed by limitations, bureaucracy, and the general decline of the worth of the job. It doesn't help that teachers around here are paid like slaves.

A bit of a disclaimer. I'm being a bit too serious and extreme here to keep both my and your interest.

Other passions?

When it comes to essays and public speaking, I am very talented. Public speaking skills were really hard to gain. I was always extremely awkward. It took a rather complex situation to bring about the desire to do that sort of thing, and an absolutely terrible bout of apathy afterward to almost master the skill.

Gaming is a big time-waster (well, time annihilator) for me. I especially love the Dark Souls series, Third Strike, and various obscure JRPGs (Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden is an absolute gem, if you haven't played it before).

I've never been one for physics (I partially blame a bad teacher for that, partially my own laziness), but engineering is also something that I enjoy. The lack of in-depth knowledge of the former cripples my desire to understand the latter, of course.

---------------------------------

But regardless, though I want to actually use this site as an intellectually-spurring debate-machine (again, lack of a better term), I'll probably only post anything of worth when I'm procrastinating. You'll probably only see me post dick jokes and gaming suggestions here, sadly. Looking back, alot of this looks pretentious. Meh. I have no interest in going back and adding in a bunch of sappy and depressing life stories to make me seem like some sort of broken asshole.

If you have any questions, here and now would be the time to ask them. Otherwise, I hope that this is a good start to a wonderful relationship between me and you - the collective members of INTPf.

Have a wonderful day.

Hola senor. Welcome.

I was curious if you felt that you gained something through your previous experience of typology exploration, something that you took away from the self discovery process as meaningful. Your view of the destination may have changed but what if anything did the journey teach you?

Maybe you answered that with the MBTI bringing people together but as someone more or less at the beginning of the journey, do you have any pointers for the discovery process in general?

Pointers: Don't take it seriously. Don't bother with cognitive processes.

I can't say exactly what effect that typology had on me. It was an effective tool for introspection. It gives you some basic tools to help determine who you really are. The fact is, using the MBTI to do some self-searching is like using a spoon to break out of prison. Can you do it? With enough time and ingenuity, yes. Are there better tools? Certainly, but they may not be as easily available.

You need to find your own tools for such things.

Interesting how you start all your paragraphs on somewhat bombastic notes, only to gradually descend into questioning and metacognitive stuff.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

Though I can't say for certain that it's all a conscious process on my end, I personally think that's the best way to construct an argument/point (or rather, the best way to style and argument/point).

Also, thank you! I hope that my stay will be a long and productive one.
