Or maybe it will go the way of typology, where we'll get more and more varied games and game-play theory, and then a cult will form, and then game theory will gradually fall out of favour as people pat themselves on their upturned noses for knowing better, and then 'mafia' will become a dirty word which signals your noob status because any true fan of games knows Dickpuncher is the best game.

psh, D*ckpuncher is a poor offshoot based on mutilated and oversimplified mafia-theory which focuses on lowest-common-denominator mafia play.

Anyone who doesn't celebrate Were-Creep as the one true mafia game is just plain wrong. It's built on the skeleton of actual mafia so you can be sure it's completely pure in theory but it still allows a lot of room for variation from game to game which allows the mods and players the most freedom.
