Eh?

For me it is socialization. I can socialize very well when I want to. The problem is that it takes a lot of energy and isn't my natural state. When I was younger I pulled it off better, now as an old fart I don't want to fake it. So there I am, off in my own little speculative world, while the sensors around me are happily talking about the latest sit com or the details of their lives. I wish I had a million friends, and wish I liked spending time more with others, but the fact is that it's not my natural bent. I'd rather theorize, think, and see what other people are doing.

I find myself drowning in apathy every day.

To be fair though, part of the problem is that my life could use some more structure (in today's case, showering and changing out of my pajamas before 3pm).

Apathy and procrastination. It really is a killer, not being able to get anything done. And then rationalising the apathy and procrastination.

Procrastination and the fact that I feel I have a gift for hurting the people I care for and love. Mostly because I have no clue about their emotional and social needs, and because appearantly people hate hearing the truth.

Hm, that's an interesting question. Over the past year or so I've almost completely eliminated many of the stereotypical INTP traits in me that I considered negative--procrastination, laziness, absentmindedness, etc. But I guess the main INTP trait I currently have that I dislike pertains to my seeming inability (or at least difficulty) to relate to or connect with my family members (almost exclusively Sensors) on a meaningful level. I'm also starting to realize and understand that I tend to care more about my intellectual pursuits, a constant endeavor, than I care about practically every relationship in my life, and that I tend to be almost completely oblivious of just how much time I spend reading and writing in comparison to how little time I spend with my family and friends.

I'm working to resolve these issues, though.

For me it's lack of focus. I get very distracted throughout my day. Endless phone calls, e-mails, someone always demanding my attention. I just get side-tracked and other people's emergencies just consume my days. It's exhausting enough to TALK about their issues, and then I am asked to resolve them. On days like this, I wish my thinking was more linear, where I could tackle one thing at a time, and have the discipline to hold off everything else.

I guess that would be overthinking my situation in life, and always arriving at the conclusion that it sucks 3/4 times more than it is enjoyable. The only thing that I can enjoy is what's available on an old PC, which is few things. Actually it would likely be more if I wouldn't be (and there it goes!) thinking and often overthinking the bad stuff in my life, then I wouldn't feel fucked up all the time and possibly could do more.

The rest, I can deal with. It might turn into social situations, as @Architect, but right now I don't have much social "obligations," so that is not that big of an issue. Or isn't most of the time anyway.

Exactly what I was thinking.
Let's just say if procrastination was a sport I'd be an olympian.

@intpz I think its a matter of age. As a younger INTP I obsessed about what I was doing, or going to do with my life, and learned to deal with my tendency towards procrastination. Ultimately I became successful in my career - could have been more successful, could have been less, but I don't really have much to complain about. Anyhow while I'm trying for another ballyhoo in my work a lot of that has been written, for better or worse.

But as you get older you see friends and relatives who drift away or die, and relationships as an adult are so screwy anyhow, it makes you wonder. You also realize it's too easy to become a bitter old curmudgeon, so relationships become more important (they were easy when younger). Anyhow I've heard this from some Sensor friends too so I'm not sure its specific to INTP's. I'm lucky in that I have a good relationship with my wife and a son. I kind of wish I had another kid - too late now, but I was oblivious to this stuff when I was younger.

Or it could be just that I solved the work problem, but never really cracked the social one. "I can play an actor on TV, but not in real life"

This sums it up for me. Even a simple phone call can keep me occupied pacing back and forth 15 minutes trying to figure out what to say. And it's not simply meaningless anxiety- the chemicals are there because I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. It leaves me making really stupid decisions

I can only hope the process will become more automated throughout college.

I love everything about myself... but the thing I like the least?

Hmm... probably the way that I cause others to behave.

Around me, good people go bad.

Happy people turn sour.

The "selfless" realize that they are, in fact, selfish.

I burst egos. I shake faiths. I whip out the truth and it lashes the content without quarter, revealing the ugliness of their own reality to them for perhaps the first time in their lives.

The world is better off without me in it.

It's too bad for the world, then, that I don't give a damn.

That is all.

Those are two of my banes as well.

A third is "lack of faith." I can't believe in something unless it makes sense and seems to be the most probable reason for something... no matter how much I might like to believe something different. (But some people might not see that as a flaw.) Any "faith" I have is pretty rational.

@Jenny

Reminds me of a passage from The Left Hand of Darkness, talking about a schizophrenic who used their schizophrenia to foretell the future. "Can't you treat that with psychopathic drugs?" asks one character. "Would you cure a soprano of her voice?" says the other.

INTP trait you like least in yourself?

I wondered how I could answer this.

I'm too embarrassed to mention anything and single it out. Name any trait and there are times when I pass and times when I do poorly. So I try to either keep from doing poorly on some and improve the rest. No way I can keep everything up.

P. My P is off the charts. Or I P off the charts. Or something. Anyway, that's tough to deal with in an SJ world.

Somehow I learned to kick my own ass when I was young and curb the procrastination. Guess I got lucky.

Althought you may mean a different "P", my P* is too P too. It's so P it becomes a J** making me an INTJ or at least look like one for the moment ... to a fault. I can feel it.

*P = Perception
** J = Judgment

My least favorite trait is just the lack of ability to prolong social conduct. There have been situations where in a large group of people I manage to shake hands or kiss the cheek of many people who I find to be important to me, but then my more extroverted friends can continue to do that to many more people whom I find rather insignificant, so I end up sitting down in a corner a bit broody to recuperate while they're thinking I'm depressed or something. It's a real pain.

Actually the only thing I hate about being an INTP is being forced into not being an INTP by this extroverted directed world just like the topic starter

I wish I could complete projects. My dad sees me as wasted talent when I don't. Often I find myself solving one small thing in a large project, then give up and move on to find more interesting challenges in other projects. Sometimes I go back to an old project and do exactly the same thing again.

I also wish I could have one INTP friend who shares exactly the same interests as me, and we could both just shut out the world.

Oh, and I did mention that I basically work in a call centre? Weep.
A job is a job, my dad would say (and I would say unfortunately I happen to have one that isn't for me, at all).

I get distracted from what I'm supposed to be thinking about by more interesting things. Like right now for instance. I'm supposed to be working...
