INTP 5 Year Plan

After taking some time to sit down and analyze my life I recognize the next five years are going to be pretty rocky and I need to build a plan, using my INTP brain and sharing ideas with others I hope to build a road-map for life. I am actively building a network of friends who have a more executive/commander persona to help me execute these ideas, otherwise I will plan for five years before I ever make a move.

Short Bio, G.I. Bill recipient/full time student, treading water in classes that are not relevant to final career, two years left until graduation... Four years before any impressive income can be expected.

Dilemma #1 Aging family members, I hope that they live forever but I understand reality and I want to be prepared for whatever may come. They will require a lot of physical assistance (not so much financial assistance) around the same time frame that I am preparing to begin my career. So, if I have a job - I will have no time to help them. Without a job I can't financially support myself whilst trying to support them. The ole catch .22

I have recognized there is a problem and my skill set is solving problems but I hope to use collective thinking to get there faster.

If you are trying to plan for 5 years in advance then do you actually know exactly what you want to achieve by then? Do you think you're currently on course to get that chosen career now or would be if you changed some courses?

Having a long term plan is great but I'm not sure how practicable it will be to try and solve those later problems if you're not certain on the future leading up to it. The solution to what your asking will be largely dependant on what your career choice is and any alternatives you may consider. You could try breaking down the hurdles facing you now and it'll make future problems much easier to work out later on and starting that ground work now will only speed up the process, I just think you may be going about it the wrong way.

Without ironing out those few details you can still focus on your finances, which seems to be the underlying problem later on. You can start saving money by working part time or starting small side ventures, maybe even something related to your ideal career path which could somehow tie in later on. The more you save now and the less you'll worry about in the future. You could take time to help or at least amore relaxed schedule. Plus you say they already had some money which could be spent on carers to come and visit if you aren't available.

Something that i have learned is that you need to move, make contacts, go outside, take a breath, do more stuff, keep looking for options, go to a bar, get a drink alone some wednesday, go to a park and scare kids as they pass by, talk to dealers even if you are not interested in buying, have a hobby, read stuff, watch YouTube videos, post in a forum, be proud about your shitty life because when it seems you are at the very bottom, somehow something comes your way and it changes everything. you need to be ready for turns of fate bro.
plans are not likely to go as you expect.

the key is to keep the machinery working around you.

Ahem... Short answer, no - I don't know exactly what I hope to accomplish. Being a millionaire, world peace, traveling gypsy...

I am in school, I had a plan, the more I go on the more I see this plan being out of reach. I will run out of benefits and will not be able to finance the last few years of my original plan. I don't want to go into debt for a job, I don't want to take out excessive school loans and I cannot be tied down to a brick and mortar location.

So I am back to the drawing board, I still have three years left of educational benefits which gives me time to work on a plan.

I move a lot, I understand the power that a change in scenery can bring. MD, PA, MA, FL, GA, MO, TX, AZ, NY and let's not talk about the places overseas... Currently I am bound by my educational responsibilities so relocating to a new school/city isn't much of an option, every time I transfer credits I lose a couple and it sucks.

I need to find a career path that will allow me to work anywhere, independently, so that in five years when my family is needing me the most I can have the freedom/mobility to do so. Does that make sense? If I had a job where I only worked in one central location it means I wouldn't be free to help my family.

I'm pretty certain TMB meant being more social and exposing yourself to a variety of experiences and keeping yourself enjoying life... not moving to another place.

Find a part-time job asap, or skip lectures and work full-time, you don't need the lectures, just have some friends sending you notes so that you can prepare for the exams. If you can, talk to the associate deans/professors if they can let you finish the courses extramurally, as in, if you can be absent from most classes for your work.

If you feel particularly resilient you could consider working night shifts and full time studying during the days, it'll be taxing but there are jobs out there where you can sleep or be almost unconscious like in the warehouse, security, server admin-y things, etc and you can sleep during most lectures and during your work shift.

I know people who pulled off either of the above. For a time I used to work full hours during my studies.

Save all the excess money you are getting now for when you're going to need them after you have to support your parents, as you seem to be expecting/predicting.

There are also most likely student loans and special 0% interest aids for people in your situation if you look around.

as far as I know myself and INTPs, plans are never executed;
so don't bother with detailed planning, just set goals and improvise
