Interesting Take on a Unified Theory

I've talked to this guy who has come up with some very interesting ideas about a unified theory. He's not a physicist, but an artist apparently, so I'm skeptical of his work. However, his ideas seem to make sense in a very theoretical way. From what he is saying in this video, what do you think of his concepts?

I can't tell you the number of times I have some "creative soul" tell me some unified theory he's come up with. In this case I only got 30 seconds into the video before turning it off. This might be called a physics remix mishmash mosh pit.

Why would you throw this "Lorentz contraction" term in front of the energy mass equivalence formula? Does he even know the basis for this equation, that it is a approximation to a quadratic expansion? You can't go any further unless he explains what the fark he's doing here with this term (from an old competing theory) getting thrown into this approximation. If he really knew his beans he would go back to the non approximated solution and make a case for why terms need to be added (and they don't). And people usually start with a physical/experimental reason for their reasoning. That is what we are trying to describe after all.

I'd say he's no physicist, and he should stick to a different form of art.

Well at least you tried to watch it. I read "his ideas seem to make sense in a very theoretical way" and didn't even waste my bandwidth on the link.

I watched it and although I'm not enough of a maths nerd to know what he was on about, when he started talking about free will (after noticeably implying it bit by bit) I figured this couldn't be legitimate.

My impression is he has provided a very nice beautiful unified historical hodgepodge patchwork collage of ingredients which eventually might get us there, but a unified theory for relativity, quantum and gravity? No.

It is going to take me at least to next Thursday to verify what he has said here. If you don't see me by next Thursday, you will know I'm still working on it or else have gone onto another thread. Thank you.

Afterthoughts: -None as yet.- Abandon all hope ye who enter here.

Wait one minute. That's false!. There is hope. Someone sooner or later someone is going to see that utube and puzzle about it. They will see it for how it fails and wonder about how it can be done. They will work on it. They will go beyond Thursday until ...

Architect. I noticed you used the word, "fark" during your astute critique. You meant "quark", didn't you?

No, I use it instead of "fuck" most of time, having picked it up from Battlestar Galactica. However in this case I was using my voice dictation which doesn't contain the word "fuck", and I haven't bothered to add it. So it decided I said "fark", when I really said "fuck" (as in "what the FUCK he's saying), and I liked the result well enough.

I'm glad you watch what the fark yer sayin'. You are not voice dictating your posts, are you?

Yes, most of the time. Dragon Dictate just came out with version 3.0 on the Macintosh, and it's wonderful to see the technology go through the knee of the curve. Previously you could get dictation accuracy if you are very careful with how you spoke, basically like a newscaster. With this release you can now speak naturally and get 99% plus accuracy.

It's wonderful to see a technology go through that kind of inflection point.

@Architect Good to hear your analysis on this. What I had derived from his explanation (this video and others combined with what he had written to me) was that the zero time aspect of the speed of light in the Lorentz equation relates to E=mc2 in that the conversion of matter to energy actually generates time. Because matter/energy conversion happens at speed, time moves forward at speed.

I see now that he was indeed talking about length contraction and not zero time in this video, so it doesn't really make sense. Strange, he seems a bit off the beam to me.

@BigApplePi Thanks for attempting an analysis. It does seem like his theory (if you can call it that) is disjointed at best, if I ever have time I'll research his claims more closely. However, with a fulltime job, freelance business, old parents to take care of, and community service work, I probably won't have time until I'm retired. And by then, his theory will probably be debunked and we will have a real Grand Unified Theory. Makes me feel like becoming a hermit this minute... *sigh*

PhoenixR. I hope I play it again sometime ... just for the art. The art consists of putting together a lot of ideas giving the APPEARANCE of making sense. It's like astrology which come to think of it, is like an art. It puts together something giving the appearance of making sense. Just don't look at it too closely. This guy knows something, but apparently concentrates on art, not consistency or literal truth. <-- I really should replay it to see if I agree with what I just said, lol.
