Hello everyone.

I discovered this site yesterday and have been haunting it ever since. My mindless web browsing had actually led me to an INTJ forum, which was intriguing in its own right. The breadcrumbs then led me to this dark but pleasant place. It's comforting to find so many like minds congregating under one roof. I look forward to digging deeper and making acquaintances.

I am 31, male, and live in the United States. I've been traveling for some time, sampling the country and seeking to understand my purpose. Along the way I've managed to complicate and burden my existence, which I can only assume is part of that purpose. I spent nearly a decade working in Los Angeles, where my technical efficiency and attention to detail made me very employable. The city slowly drank of my soul, and I lost connection with my own values and personal goals. I've since departed the rat race and have returned to the open road with my brood (wife and son). Most of my energy is now going into finishing a work of fiction, a novel, which has been taunting me for a number of years now.

I finally feel as though I am on a worthy path, and I hope this site proves to be a worthwhile distraction from pursuing demons.

Thanks. I've been catching up on old threads. There's a lot of entertaining and insightful information here.

See you around.

The title was a roundabout way of describing how I found my way in here. But strangely enough "The Song Remains the Same" album was playing loudly from another room. I'm sure there was some unconscious influence, because it made sense at the time.

That's what happens when one rushes things...

I like going in the out door. Some women are adverse to it, but it's relatively easy to convince them, and they generally wind up enjoying it.

I agree . I think we have to be simple in order to spend our energy with abstract questions and answers . Plus , I hate guessing peoples motives , playing dirty doesn't appeal to me . The simpler the better !

I never thought of it that way. I never really thought I made my exterior life as simple as possible so that I could spend more time in my head, but I suppose that is, ultimately, my purpose in it. It may also explain why some people like to make their exterior lives more complicated than it needs to be; They like it that way! I never considered that might be a thing people wanted, I suppose. I understand myself, I understand what I want, what I like, so that I can put the least amount of effort as I can into getting it. Other people may enjoy the unnecessary hurdles of drama and overloaded schedules... Odd.

Vonnegut came to a pretty similar conclusion in The Sirens of Titan:

Mankind, ignorant of the truths that lie within every human
being, looked outward — pushed ever outward.
