i have been lurking here a while and am introducing myself because i posted on another thread, so thought now was as fine a time as any. unfortunately, i suck at introducing myself.

i met my senior year prom date through a BBS called "The Bates Motel" on a Vic 20, connecting through a 600 baud mode.

that sentence above should tell you my approximate age and the long, sad extent of my awkwardness.

A charismatic individual presents his or her own badges of honor under the guise of the belief that they are something to be ashamed about. Welcome to the forum, and as a service you may explain, to those who haven't already done three Google searches, what a "BBS," a "Vic 20" and a "600-baud modem" are.

Sorry if i came off as anything other the weird that i am. My attempts at self-deprecation apparently came off as pretension

Suffice to say, my intent was to imply that i'm likely older than a large percentage of the members here.

BBSes were pretty much chatrooms/forums of yore. If you ever connected to the intertubes via a phone line, that's typically a 56K baud modem.

Please allow a young William Shatner to atone for my lack of presentation skills.

Also, i walked up hill both ways in the snow. barefoot.

Man I bet that's snug. But what if you have a grower?

There are quite a few 'older' members in this forum... but we could certainly use one more. I hope you have lots of life experience and wisdom to bestow. :D

Hope at least the pictures were pretty :)

If we're sharing funny prom stories - I had two prom dates - one was the gayest person I know, and the other was kind of bi/metro/omni/a/sexual. I'm really not sure.
I still managed to get bored, though. It's a talent.

at least that probably means they were dressed well? :P

i understand the boredom thing. it seems the more "entertainment" there is, the less i can absorb it or something? it blocks my inner dialogue or something. idk.

being that i was a "pretty good girl" back in high school, i was probably a terrible prom date. i sure as hell wouldn't take me out.

if now-me could discuss prom/life with past-me, i would tell her to skip that shit and take my geeky friends out to beach and force us all to share some illicitly procured wine, stare at the world, and have deep, stupid discussions.

At the time it seemed that they were, indeed, very well dressed. Looking at those pictures now, one of them kinda looks like a pimp :D

Funnily enough, my former self seems to be a lot like your former self, but my current self is too selfish and would never want my former self to have more fun, because without the excruciating boredom that followed me trough so much of my life, I never would have become the charming, interesting, fascinating, wonderful, modest person I am now.

Also, looking back at that time of my life, my current life seems like such fun, it makes me all warm on the inside.

Touche'

I suppose we pay the piper one time or another. In that case, fuck you, past-me. Now-me is in a much better place. I prefer the price remain yours.

as they say, it's better than the alternative.

i've found it to be mostly a minor physical price for wisdom/emotional/psychic well-being. which is a damn fair trade in my humble opinion. but i'm healthy and relatively unencumbered by the stresses of children, soul-sucking work, and negative relationships, so YMMV.

i mostly miss the days when all-nighters didn't kick my ass. ;)

On a related note, Welcome to the OP. It's always nice to have some wisdom attained from life experience.

yes please. but i hope we can spike said tea with some limoncello or gin, thus increasing the chances of deep, stupid discussion to ensue.

Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship :D
