Hi,

That title just come across my mind today.

I never made an intro before, since I registered a year ago.
I'm not sure where should I put this thread, so I put here.
I'm female, 28, from Indonesia.
I end up at this forum a year ago after about ten times test with result that I'm an INTP. I'm a silent reader here, as there is a lack of courage to post something.
It's about the language.
I'm afraid of making mistakes in grammar.

So, back to the title.
What's your thought?
But the most curiosity is my country, certainly.
Glad if I could have some response here.

Thanks,
Dee

Welcome Goddess,

Glad to find another member from Southeast Asia.

I only had one Indonesian friend in real life so I don't know much about your culture. You guys look like us though so it's kind of cool.

Hi Pyro,

Glad to find you too.
I haven't really checked the members of this forum.
I thought that it must be full Americans and Europeans.

Philippines has the same weather with Indonesia.
It's quite the same.
But it's unique, because it's a former colonies of Spain.
Asian culture combine with Spain.

Welcome Goddess!

My knowledge of Indonesia is rather limited, however, I did a bit of reading about the revolution in the 40s upon watching The Act of Killing. Have you seen the movie? If so, what is your view on it?

@Doncarlzone,

Woaa, I haven't watched that one. Good reference though, I should watch.
It's during the war time, isn't it?
I think, mass-killings happened during the war is common things.
I mean, it happens all over the world, as you know.
Every country have this kind of story/history.
Btw, where are you from?

@TheHabitatDoctor,

You like Indonesian food? seriously?
Have you been to my country?
I live in Bali.
Have you been to Bali?

Yes! It's awesome! (Galangal & fish sauce. Durian too. *evil laugh*)

I've never been there though. :slashnew: But I do know an archaeologist in Bali. :D

Indonesia is what you would get if you mixed equal parts Arab and Chinese, then put them in the middle of the steaming hot jungle - you get lots of short, simple, polite brown people who take religion seriously, are tolerant of others, work very hard, and are exploited by the rest of the world because of corrupt politicians who sold their people out decades ago, which means that everyone is a bit corrupt and likes "gifts" if you want them to do something for you :D

I actually helped an Indonesian couple out the other day, when their car broke down. The whole time I was wondering what kind of spaz doesn't have jumper cables in their car, and lets their wife wear 4 layers of cloth on her head in the heat. Weirdos

Australian here, though you probably knew that.

I don't really know much about Indonesia, I've been to Thailand so I figure it's much the same, if a little more tropical and perhaps a little more developed, Bali certainly what with all the Australian tourists you must get, sorry, in terms of being obnoxious and uncultured I hear our tourists are almost as bad as Americans.

Sounds like my country too but with added Spanish and American seasonings.

@redbaron; What did you learn about Indonesia?

@habitatDoctor; Wow, you eat durian. Quite rare for western people.

@just george; Quite an observation.

@Cognisant; Yes I know. For Australians in here, Bali is their second country, they declare.

@Gopher; Yeap. Can/do you ride motorbike?

Welcome!

So, back to the title.
What's your thought?
Durians. Many many many durians. Second thought: the name of the country sounds like India and Polynesia mashed up.

It's about the language.
I'm afraid of making mistakes in grammar.
Your English is fine, and, as people say, practice makes perfect. ;)

I'm very curious about Indonesia. My first serious boyfriend (& still a close friend) was half Indonesian/half Irish and his grandmother (Oma!) lived there for most of her life. Had some CRAZY stories regarding black magic, superstitions, ghosts, etc. Hesitant to talk about it but of course we were all curious.

I guess my (boy)friend had visited as a young boy and just remembers that the houses were on stilts so komodo dragons wouldn't get inside (!). He's an ENFP, would remember and note stuff like that. :p

I am also a massive durian fan and hope to visit Indonesia and Thailand someday to go on a tryptophan/seratonin binge and smell like rotten eggs for a month straight. :D

I'd be surprised if there are even any Indonesian people in Bali, considering how many of us go there. The way us Aussies treat it seems like an overseas Kings Cross, a place to get absolutely shitfaced and act like a dickhead. I reckon only a small percentage would even know that it's in Indonesia.

I went to Phuket and Patong Beach definitely feels like a Kings Cross, stacked to the rafter with drunk stupid Aussies.

Anyway the few Indonesian people I've met, I've really liked. One in particular who I had somewhat of a crush on. Ugh. Another was a golf caddy in Kuala Lumpur, an older woman. Fantasically awesome happy person, and could hit a golf ball let me tell you.

As for the country, I don't really have an opinion on it per se. I see it as fitting fairly comfortably with the other SE Asian countries, a bit stricter than others perhaps due to the Islam influence. Probably like Malaysia but less economically successful (no offence).

I'm female, 28, from Indonesia.

Do you have social pressure to get married, if you're not already? I know Vietnam a single female 28 would have a ton of it, and judging by the Indo girl I know it seems the same?

When I was a child I was introduced to Indonesian shadow puppet play and music. Since then, I have been wanting to visit Indonesia to see as many live puppet shows as possible; I love the meditative drone of the music coupled with the mysterious shadows. Even if I cannot understand the language, it doesn't matter as the performances seem to almost put me in a state of hypnosis which I quite enjoy (for some reason, this particular dancing shadow puppet reminds me of THD :D):

I also find Indonesian history very fascinating:

Quote from wiki: "A number of Hindu and Buddhist states flourished and then declined across Indonesia. By the time of the European Renaissance, Java and Sumatra had already seen over a millennium of civilization and two major empires. One such early kingdom was Tarumanagara, which flourished between 358 and 669 CE. Located in West Java close to modern-day Jakarta, its 5th-century king, Purnawarman, established the earliest known inscriptions in Java, the Ciaruteun inscription located near Bogor. On this monument, King Purnavarman inscribed his name and made an imprint of his footprints, as well as his elephant's footprints. The accompanying inscription reads, "Here are the footprints of King Purnavarman, the heroic conqueror of the world". This inscription is in Sanskrit and is still clear after 1500 years. Purnawarman apparently built a canal that changed the course of the Cakung River, and drained a coastal area for agriculture and settlement. In his stone inscriptions, Purnawarman associated himself with Vishnu, and Brahmins ritually secured the hydraulic project."

Hi Gopher, come visit my country and try the adrenalin rush of riding motorbike here. ;)

@Clock : Thanks, I should keep practice.

@r4ch3l : ..while I am curious about what people of another country think about Indonesia now. Hehe

@Beat Mango : Those tourists, is one of my reason I posted this thread. What exactly do they think they are doing. The good thing is, they do not spread all over this island, only along the south coastline.
"...social pressure to get married", yes i do have it. The most pressure comes from my family. And it is been stressing me out lately.

@Polaris :What is THD? I never really understand the language of that kind of puppet myself. :D They use ancient language. But I can get the big picture of the story. I do enjoy puppet.
That one you showed is call Wayang Kulit. Wayang : Puppet, Kulit : Leather.
Indonesian history, you remind me of something I realize lately.
The fame of the European history has put aside my own country's fascinating history.
Now I am studying it.

Anyway, guys...you surprised me. Never thought that your opinion will be interesting like this. And about the durian? Wow.. I thought you'd hate that smelly fruit. :D

Sorry, THD = TheHabitatDoctor.

Yes, it is interesting how European/American history (and everything else for that matter) is such a dominant point of interest. This is why I would like to live in a non-western country for a while, just to shift my brainwashed world-perspective.

Also, I almost forgot: Welcome back, you seem interesting.

:)

...oops, The Mighty Goph got in before me....nevermind.

Oh, Okay, THD.

".......welcome back.."
Cognisant also sent me a message about "me-going back".
Have I gone somewhere?
Have I misinterpret the language or is it literally?
Sorry, I am working on my English here. :D

Hmmm, well...perhaps you didn't go anywhere. You just disappeared out of our line of vision due to not posting; hence, we interpreted that as you 'being away'. Now you are "back" in our minds because we can see you posting stuff again.

It's not your English, it's my poor expression....:ahh:

Lost in Thought
Hello, I do not know a lot about Indonesia, but it is nice to have you here and reading through all the posts was interesting.

I also do not post very much, and I mostly lurk about this place.

I think part of the reason I don't always post much, is because it takes an effort to put my thoughts into words and especially with the subjects that interest me, so it is easier to just silently observe. I guess I can be a bit lazy when it comes to communication.

Alright...back to lurking :ninjahide:

Hi. I seem to be a little weirdly wired, but my first thoughts are:

Location on the map and climate zone. Language.
Local food sources and how hard would be to find water.
Possible dangers (animals (predators/poisonous) to earthquakes to diseases).
The shadows and bits of culture knowledge (almost nothing).
Then I failed to remember capital city (and I used to know all capitals by heart). (I have since fixed that, because it nagged me.)

Nothing wrong with being a lurker, but do post, you seem interesting.

Why did you test yourself ten times? Does the description of INTP not apply to you exactly or did you not like it?

My first thought? "That is the country where my all-time favourite xxTP lives!"

Apart from that I have read only three books about the legal system of Indonesia because I wanted to better understand the context of the Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi and its hopeless struggle.

I live in Bali.

Ah yes, Bali. I know that Indonesia is the country with the biggest Islamics community worldwide, while Bali is predominantly Hindu.

I have also sampled Balian food, and find it quite good. I am not a vegeterian, but the vegeterian dishes I have eaten was full of flavour and very interesting.

I have never been to Bali, but I have family there and have met a person from there.
Bali was once a dutch colony, so the language is an interesting mix, with some of the words similar to my home language.

Furthermore, I also know that Bali has some intruiging rituals, especially funeral rituals.

It is an intruiging island, one I aim to visit somewhere in my life.

May I ask as to your proffesion? It would be interesting to know what an intp is doing on Bali.
