The fam took me to a friends of theirs in the countryside the other day. The ride itself was calm. The Japanese countryside really is desolate, although there's an errie peace to it. After a two hour ride we arrived at the house where upon entry there was a huge aquariaum with two distinct fishes in it. One was approximately a two foot red carp with a majestic ancient glow around while the other I believe was a grey mudkip looking fish, maybe around a hand length. My mother directed my attention to the red carp which was staring distinctly at me.

I tried to get closer, with all intention to get to get friendlier with the carp. I warmed to it, and shyed away from it. I wavied at it, and it swarmed left then to the right, then U-turned back to me, ever slowly.

However, I noticed the other grey fish floating around the bottom of the tank. As I tried to get closer to it it stopped moving. I moved closer to it, and it stopped dead. I stood up. It started to wave its fins. I waved mine. It started to bob its head up and down. I smiled weakly. It moved around. I moved my hands closer to the aquariaum. It stopped once again. But I didn't mind. I went closer. Then BAM the fish coiled up and acted as if it was trying to bite my finger. Yeah, I admit, I was frightened by a hand lengthed grey mudkip looking fish I could probably cook up for breakfast.

Regaining my composure I prepared to go in the living room where the family was waiting. But I noticed something.. the red carp moving closer to the smaller grey fish.. then RAWR, scared the grey fish into submission, as if it were trying to punish it for scaring me.

What the hell just happened?

Oh and just as an aside there was an earthquake later that day, right where we were.

6 days ago 4.6 magnitude, 51 km depth

Wait a minute...
The Japanese can now genetically engineer pokemon?

I need to catch a plane.

Regarding your encounter: Meh animals are weird, while fish are insane. I once saw a silver fish turn gold just because it swam with goldfish.
Insanity.

My current theory is that somehow the excess chemicals from the goldfishes scales affected it's scales.
That same silver fish devoured almost all my guppies, thus a transfer was needed.
Fish are weird.

Well that's interesting. You know I always wondered why westerners think fish are weird. They're so tasty.. I mean when you go to a sushi bar, that maguro (chilled tuna) is just insane good. I think there's some adversion westerns have against the word 'raw'. It reminds people of Gollum maybe? Like with all the fish eating and devilry and stuff.

No no no.....I would kill someone for real sushi.
Eating fish, raw or cooked, is not weird.
I actually prefer sushi over some hake murdered in cooking oil.

Fish are weird because of...their eyes.
Never sure whether they are evil, mad, both or just stupidly floating about.

Magikarp thought you will be feeding it so it hang out with you a bit. Mudkip thought the same but have some reservations.

Magikarp thought that Mudkip is threatening its feeding time so it tried to make Mudkip scram.

Lesson for the day: each pokemon to understand the power that's inside...

In the early twenty first century human evolution took a rather different turn. Lots of people in the developed world started adjusting to the information overload, allowing them to increase both breath and depth of communication and perception. While symbiotic relationships between an individual and his or hers calculation devices became the norm, a slightly different permutation of such extended consciousness took form. One day marked by a strange event, began a story, a journey of self realization. A story of Aquaman.

Eh, dead topic but whatever.

But the eyes, yes the eyes! That's what happened when I was looking at the fish. It was like it was trying to communicate with me, and I did. Tbqh I was a bit psychotic (as in I was under a bit of psychosis) at the time. Call me crazy, but that bonding I had probably nudged the red carp to scare the bejesus out of the grey mudkip.

I should probably take a picture of the fishes the next time I visit.
