I have two tattooes and want to get more, but I thought about it for a long time and made sure I got a design that I designed and could live with.

Now I only wish I had done more.

People tend to regret getting anything in letters. Do it if you want, but consider that at least and look for a legit place.

I have about 15 tattoos and my husband is a tattoo artist. I think the word INSANE is a tiny bit in bad taste and you will regret it later. Try and think of something that symbolizes your insanity.

***Do your research and check portfolios. There are a lot of shitty artists out there. It is worth the money to get a quality piece of work!***

I love all of my tattoos which includes a 35 hour back piece, but I thought long and hard about all of them..

^ hah I'm not actually insane (as far as I know), I just feel like making a statement against mainstream society. It's one of those things that seems lke an awesome idea when I'm in a bad mood, and kind of cringe worthy when I'm not. I already have one tattoo, a wooden crucifix I got in Bangkok, and have the taste for more...

Do you have a favorite artist/tattoo artist?

One of my favorites is Mosher Horimouja he designed the phoenix on my back.

Don't they feel uncomfortable on your skin?

You mean after they're healed? If so then NO. They feel just like skin without tattoos.

I have a tattoo on my back so that I wouldn't notice when I eventually got bored of it.
I agree with Lucylie that the actual words INSANE would be a bit intense, lol......maybe if you did it, it would confirm you are nuts :D

It amazes me that so many people are so passionate about tats. I have NO desire to get one. If I did it would have to be ironic or in some way amusing. Cant do that with something permanent. I would get bored, and then fill with regret.

They are much more accepted now than when I was a kid. I have always seen 90 % of people with them as dirt bags lacking in intellect. But thats obviously not the case.

One of my prejudices still remains. I see them as a form of decadence. An example of the rampant decadence that befalls an empire right before its fall.

Im old tho.

You're assuming I knew there was such thing as a tattoo artist in that sense :/

@bluesquid: certainly in Australia, it's extremely mainstream, especially for jocks and party/nightclub types (ie, the cool kids) to get tatts. I despise that subsection of society, but at the same time, the straight & square types stay right away from tatts, and I despise them too. In any case, the word INSANE on my back would certainly be off the beat.

If you get a tattoo of the word "Insane", sods law is certain to make the tattooist write "Inane" by mistake

I like the idea that you can get them and it will determine what you'll come back as in the next life (if there was one). I wouldn't have words, images say more :)
I quite want to get a wolf or a bear one, so if it does determine what I come back as it would be one of those (plus I liked those two animals alot).

I don't think tattooing 'insane' on your back is going to get your message across. People will look at you weird and that would be fun but, its going to get old fast. I do believe in self expression but, this definitely isn't the way to do it. (It very well could be, I'm making assumptions of your character based on my own.)

IF you do go through with it make sure you own it. Don't listen to these people who say it's not tasteful. They could be some of those fakers that you see so much of. Just take some time to really think about it: do you really want to do it?

...yeah, people aren't going to be reading "insane" on your back. they're gonna be reading "douchebag".

if you don't care what people think, then go for it, man. but it sounds to me like you do. i mean, if it's a "message", if it's supposed to be in-your-face to society... then it sort of matters how people perceive it.

i have a few tattoo ideas. one of a butterfly, on my hip, to cover up my SI-scars -- but not even really to "cover up", but to sort of, i don't know... make it... complete. there's a story behind the butterfly but i don't want to get into it much. it'd probably be very colorful, and the image i have in my head is almost... ethereal, in a way. i can't explain it very well.

i have a couple other ideas but they're not quite as "meaningful". and i do appreciate meaning in a tattoo. i'd only get it if i know i wouldn't regret it.

Ok well if it doesn't go down well on a forum full of INTPs, then it won't go down well in larger society, which yes shoeless would, as much as I hate to admit it, kind of bother me. I only want to ruffle a few of the bird's feathers, not blow it's head off. I wonder if there's a more subtle word rather than INSANE, which still conveys the same thing?

You would really have to find a fantastic artist who is able to do all of those lines perfectly. Surprisingly a lot of the people who do mag work and portraits/large art scenes don't have very good line work, which is probably one of the reasons they turned to mag work in the first place.
